I stayed here in November having booked online for £15. This was through the chain's early booking offer and I managed to upgrade from a double room to a family room for this price.
This included a sofa, double bed, ensuite, TV, kettle. The room was adequate for what you would expect from budget accommodation - clean and well presented.
However, my criticisms aren't of the room. We arrived at the hotel at 2.50pm and were informed we couldn't check in until 3.00. My boyfriend was sat outside in the car at this point because we wanted to find out aboutcar parking before leaving the car - which I will come back to.
So, we had to drive around in circles for 10 minutes before getting back to check in and finding a large queue at the check in desk as it seemed that everybody else who was staying that night had turned up at the same time, there was only one person on the reception desk and she appeared to be getting flustered. I understand that it is Travelodge policy to have a 3.00 check in unless you pay extra, but they must then be able to cope if a lot of people turn up at once wanting to check in.
When I asked about the car park I was informed that the council owned car park opposite the hotel was able to be used by guests, but it was £5 for up to 24 hours, which needed topping up at 7.30am. This meant we had to get up, along with at least 10 other guests from the hotel before 7.30 when we were supposed to be having a relaxing break to ensure the car wasn't clamped.
I know that car parking in city centres is big money, but the hotel would benefit greatly from striking a deal with Liverpool council to allow hotel guests to pay for 48 hours etc as the last thing people want when they are having a holiday is to be worrying about what time they are going to have to get up in the morning.
Having returned to bed for a while after this, we were then woken by the cleaners trying to get into the room an hour later.
The hotel's location was ideal for walking into the city centre and was opposite the World Museum which is well worth a visit. However, if you are looking for a bit of comfort on your trip to Liverpool, I would recommend paying that little bit extra.

Good review with some useful info on the quirks of travelodge policy.
You may want to put more detail about the actual hotel and it's location to rate higher. I'm from Liverpool and I don't know where the world museum is. A potential visitor may want more detail here.

Hi Helen, you're right about the machines only taking coins. We had to buy a newspaper from a corner shop the first time we paid to get five £1 coins to put in the machine and then as we were returning to our hotel from our (drunken!) night out we had to make sure we had enough coins to top the machine up in the morning. Thanks for your review.
