The Travelodge in Oswestry is located at the part of Oswestry which is called 'Mile End'(only a couple of minutes away from the town centre). The lodge is situated at the side of the road , right next door to a Little Chef , Burger King . a tourist information centre and a service station , so it makes a great place to stop if you are on a long journey. It also has a large car park by it , so you'll easily find a parking space.
I had never stayed at a Travelodge hotel before and so was unsure what to expect , although I did know where it was , as I have visited the Little Chef and service station many a times before , but the lodge was somewhere I had never been to , despite being so close to the places I had been.
On arrival , the receptionist was very helpful and was happy to answer any questions we had. Check in was quick (great for us , as it was quite late morning, and so we needed to get ready for our wedding in the afternoon quite quickly). Our room was situated at the back on the ground floor ; suprisingly , although the lodge is right by the road , there wasn't that much road noise to be heard considering how close we were.
The room was not that big (but it was ok because we didn't have to stay in there long) but very clean and only cost us about £25 each for three of us (I can't remember the exact amount , but was roughly around that cost). In the room , there was a television as well as tea and coffee making facilities. The room was very basic , although it was enough for us as we were only spending a few hours there. One thing I didn't like was the sofa bed that I slept in , it wasn't exactly the comfiest of beds as it was quite hard and too small (so I was squashed). I also didn't like the fact that my 'bed' was right by the window , as we were on the ground floor and I was quite scared when it was dark thinking 'argh! what if someone's by the window looking in?!". One thing I was happy with was the fact that the room had a big wide mirror which was perfect as we were getting ready for the wedding , as it meant we could all do our make up in the same mirror at the same time without having to fight over it.
After the wedding , we went back to our room for a quick change for the night do ; only for an hour or so. We then went back to the wedding for the party. We returned back to the lodge at about 2AM , I was feeling quite hungry by then and so was so glad to be greeted by a 'fullystocked' vending machine , which I quite happily purchased a few 'chocolate munchies' from , although I did think that they were very expensive , but I was hungry and bought them anyway.
In all , I think we only spent a total of about 10 hours in our room (including about seven hours of sleep) , so we were quite happy with the standard , as for us it was only a base for us to get ready and sleep , whereas if we had been staying there for a few nights on holiday , I don't think I would have liked it , but because it was only for the night , we were happy!
The next morning , we went for breakfast at the Little Chef next door , and because we stayed at the Travelodge , we got 25% of our bill which I thought was great value! So it's worth enquiring about when you arrive at the Travelodge as if they may give you a 'money saving voucher' , however make sure you get it before you leave the lodge.
If you are looking for somewhere to stay for the night while on a long journey , or like us attending an event in the area and looking for somewhere just for the night , then this is perfect.
