I recently stayed in the PlymouthTravel lodge at Derry’s cross with my partner and if it's good value, clean, comfortable accommodation you're after then for £39 (from £19 if booked in advance) per night the Travelodge offers exactly that.
We had to travel down to Plymouth to visit family at very short notice and our main concern was finding a place to stay on a tight budget, we literally booked the night before our stay and compared to the b&b's in the area The Travelodge was very competitively priced. If you have ever stayed in any other Travelodge you should expect exactly the same from this one as they pretty much look like exact replicas, with a bed, desk and chair and en suite bathroom. For us this was most definitely a plus point as there were no nasty surprises with regards to cleanliness or comfort etc. Also being disabled I would say this hotel is perfectly suitable for disabled people. The main entrance has no stairs and the doors are easily wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs and pushchairs and all floors can be accessed via the lift. I was also impressed by how disabled friendly the rooms were and unlike a lot of other hotels it was clear that every effort had been made to ensure this. The rooms were very spacious again large enough to accommodate a wheelchair and as my balance isn't great I personally found it extremely helpful to have grab rails all round the bath.
Now for the not so great bits but there honestly weren't many just a few small things to bear in mind: there is no breakfast included in the price of the room but you can add on a breakfast box for around £5 although the contents were very limited and consist of a choice of PG Tips tea or Kenco sustainable coffee, a cereal pot, a fair-trade flapjack or cereal bar and a natural fruit smoothie. These are great for the health conscious but I know my partner would have preferred full English.
Unlike a lot of hotels there are no complimentary toiletries included in the price of room so please don't forget your shower gel but you can borrow a hairdryer from reception at no extra cost. Also the rooms have no air conditioning but you can also get a fan free of charge from reception. We also Paid five pounds for use of the hotel's Wi-Fi facility but were unable to get a connection and the hotel staff weren't much help as they said it had nothing to do with them and was run by separate company.
The main thing that I would bring to your attention is that hotel overlooks a disused multi storey car park and there was a constant succession of car racing up and down outside our window and as you can imagine there was quite a lot of noise but I was lead to believe work is being done to put a stop to this at the moment.
Over all I would say this is a good value hotel in an excellent location smack bang in the centre of Plymouth. It is only a short walk from all the city centre attractions such as shopping centres, the hoe and the Barbican and only a few minutes walk to royal parade where you will find the major bus stops to take you further afield than the city centre.
Another thing I must mention is a restaurant called Water Dragon, a buffet restaurant serving Chinese/Japanese and Malaysian food. It was just round the corner from the Travelodge (next door to the casino) and was £10 all you can eat. The food was very fresh and there was a huge selection. It is by far the best buffet restaurant I have eaten in and I am fussy. There is also a section where the chef will stir fry you chosen ingredients while you wait included in the £10 price! Also look out for their promotions such as a free drink with every meal and kids eat free on certain days of the week.
