The Travelodge Sydney is one of the best value 3 star hotels in Sydney City Centre.

Location

This hotel is perfectly located a stones throw away from the action; a mere block away from Oxford St where you will find funky cafes, restaurants, Sydney's best choice of late bars for the clubbers among you and great shopping.

Other nearby attractions

Pitt Street Mall which is renowned for its shopping is less than a kilometre away as is Darling Harbour, the rocks, the opera house and the harbour bridge. Sydney City Centre isn't really that big so you can get to any of these plus other major attractions by foot although the hotel reception was always happy to book us taxis when we went out at night (and all the cab drivers knew where the hotel was when we were trying to find our way back there after a night out on the champas!)

Location from Airport

The hotel is pretty conveniently located from Sydney International Airport, approximately 20km or 30 mins drive. If you are hiring a car it's a straightforward run from the airport and is well signposted although there are a few one way streets around and Oxford Street can be pretty hectic so it can't hurt to get your hands on a map of the local area before you set off. If you are getting a train, it's only about 15 mins and you can get off at one of the nearby stations Central (the city's major hub) or townhall which are both fairly close by.

The hotel also offers transfers for an extra charge.

Rooms

I was pleasantly surprised by the size and the cleanliness of the rooms. I stayed in a double room which had a queen size double bed, a fold out sleeper couch, small table and chairs, average sized bathroom plus TV, and a small fridge. In fact I have stayed in much pricier hotels which didn't have half as much room!

The bed was not luxurious but defiantly comfortable and spacious and the extra pillows which were provided made for a good nights sleep.

Tea and coffee facilities were provided as was a small bar fridge. (The fridge was not stocked.) and microwave.

Price

At the time I paid $99 (AU) for a double room for 1 night.

As I was already in Sydney at the time I booked direct on their website.

You can also book on Expedia from £61 per night.

Hotel Restaurant

The hotel does not offer room service but does have a restaurant and bar. It wasn't overly special but quite convenient for breakfast. Word to the wise - Don't waste any time eating in the hotel when there are so many great places to eat on your doorstep… Check out near by Cockle bay and King Street Wharf for some great restaurants especially the seafood. There are also great places along Oxford Street and in nearby Paddington.

Oh and there are also vending machines located throughout the hotel containing snacks like pot noodles and things for the late night munchies!

Service

The Reception staff were nothing but friendly and helpful throughout our stay. They were only too happy to book taxis, provide sightseeing and dining advice.

For Business

Although I was not staying at the hotel for business, it seemed to be reasonably well suited for business mainly due to its location. There was however dial up internet available in all rooms for an extra fee, conference room and dry cleaning.
