After Traveling around Australia for Months I have stayed in many hotels across the East Coast as you will discover in my Reviews. As more and more of us are traveling to Australia, I think its useful to see what are hotels we are assured of, are actually what we are getting after thousands of miles of traveling to our dream destination.
We booked The Travelodge Sydney because me and my partner thought its a reputable name, Travelodge all over the world. Fine within the UK, not great but always comes up to standard.
We had four days in Sydney and booked here! what a mistake. We arrived at the Hotel after traveling from Bribane 2-hours away. We were very tired and wanted to get some sleep after traveling from 4-am we needed a little sleep.
Our hotel reservations were to check in early, but to our dismay they didn't acknowledge that and said we were not allowed to check in till 3pm.
A bit irate I began my trek into Sydney soaking up the atmosphere and returned to the hotel exhausted at 3pm.
We checked in with our suitcases and was rudely served. We were given our keys and went to finally-!! settle in our room. Opened the Door and found that we had two single beds. We had pre-paid a double luxury room.
Not happy so i went downstairs and calmly spoke to the women about our dismay. She was rude and obnoxious and said well you get what you are given I suppose! I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
Then I explained about not being able to check in which was one of our preferences and now yet again not being able to get a double bed room that we had booked over 6 months earlier seemed unreal!
Rudely she moved us to another room. She knew I couldn't handle smoke as I had said again in our preferences. But she put us in a smoking disabled room, on the fourth floor. I went in but I was so exhausted after everything I couldn't be bothered to even go to the desk again and stuck with the room waiting for the next day to again complain! The television was not working no T-service, no towels.
11pm went to bed and BOOOm laughing, loud voices... We had a adjoining door to a Stag party of 10-men staying in one room, couldn't get any sleep all night. Complained 4 times to Reception.
Next morning exhausted and feeling not heard and fed up I went to reception and just this isn't on! this is a life time experience I was on and travelodge were ruining my stay in Sydney as I was exhausted!
They apologized and put us in a new room with only two more nights we wanted and hoped for a good room. Double bedroom and normal services NOT luxury like we had payed for!
We came back to the hotel on our last night and asked for a alarm wake to make especially sure we would get up! .. I set my alarm incase. The receptionist has sneaked round the back for a Nap and was not on receptions absolute Joke. But he said yes yes thats fine!
Anyway...4-am ... no Call wake- 5-am No Call wake... my alarm went off thank-god... and we woke. I went downstairs and checked out and said this hotel needs seriously looking out for customer service, duties and the general policies on how to treat guests.
I would not recommend staying in this hotel! great location and close to most things but my experience here was terrible and ruined the start to what should of been a dream experience at luxury style to what I thought was trusted name.. shows you names are not everything!
My advice, book a more central Sydney hotel one that isn't travelodge! and get some well deserved relaxation because you wont get it here.
