Cote d'Ivoire, country in decline

Advantages: the real africa, hardly a tourist destination
Disadvantages: political and ethnical instability, rough travelling

Abidjan, the capital, you need to be extremely carefull, this is one of the most dangerous cities in Africa. Don't wear jewellerie or camera's, don't go strolling after dark and stay away from Treichville and the harbours, if the dog don't bite, the cat will, police is completely corrupt in this city. beautifull places to visit are Grand Bassam (large tourist market), Parc national de la Marahoue, T'ai national parc, the Basilique de notre dame de la paix in yamoussoukro the beautifull traditional village Biankouma and the forests surrounding it. You could relax in hotel La Terasse, owned by german Marko, and overlooking the village Sassandra, the river, the ocean, the beach and the fishing pirogues. You can travel up a river by pirogue and see hippo's, monkeys, snakes, antelope, crocodiles, fish eagles, hornbills etc. Try to eat out ...

Your Star in the Sky

Advantages: Cheap fares, very prominent throughout Africa
Disadvantages: Occasional delays, long queues at check-in

Having been transferred to Ghana in the year 2000 and having lived their for a period of over one year I thought I might write an opinion on Ghana Airways, with whom I traveled with many times. Ghana Airways is the national airline of Ghana and their slogan is “Your Star in the Sky” They operate a fleet of DC10 aircraft, which they use for their long haul flights, and a fleet of DC9 aircraft, which they use on the short haul flights. Although these aircraft are quite old, they are maintained and serviced very well. The destinations covered by Ghana Airways, from and to the capital city Accra, are: Long Haul Flights --------------------- New York, Baltimore, London, Dusseldorf, Johannesburg, Harare, Short Haul Flights ---------------------- Abidjan (Ivory Coast), Conakry (Guinea), Dakar (Senegal), Lagos ...

Review of Ghana Airways

Yamoussoukro, a contradiction in termino

Advantages: good facilities, lively city
Disadvantages: political instability

Having visitid the official capital of Ivory Coast myself for quite some times, I can honestly state that this is the most bizarre city i erer visited! The former president mr. Felix Houphoignet-Boigny dicided that him beeing the president, his village beeing the centre of the country, this was to be the new capital. So he put it on the map, and how...... He realised tarmac roads, 8 lanes wide, streetlights, traffic lights (the only ones you see out of Abidjan)a very prestigious hotel, several gourvernement services, a palace, a mosk and a really big camp for his elite forces the republican garde. Ohhhhh and I also almost forgot, he build a catholic church. You could actually say cathedral, a huge cathedral to be honest. It sits in the middle of the savanna yust half a mile out of town, you can't oversee it, it's a precise copy ...
