Livin' the Atlantic Dream

Advantages: Excellent trek leader, activities, flexibility and facilities.
Disadvantages: Expensive pre-trek hotel night, cooking and cleaning for yourself and putting up tents

...had advertised a company called Trek America. It is a touring company that offers treks in the USA, Canada and various South American countries such as Mexico. It has an age limit of 18 to 38 years of age (although they offer a pricier, premium trekking experience for all ages with their sister company 'Footloose). ...a pre-trek hotel. The trek departure location is generally at a hotel and the company offers to book a room for you for the night before, taking away the hassle of having to travel to the hotel in the early hours of the morning. Call it stupidity but I thought that I was booking it for around a $100 for that night alone - I was not aware that it was in fact over the region of £100 for a single room as no shared rooms were available. This leaves me ... more

Trek America has contacted me today to object to the content of this review, as they feel it did not present an accurate reflection of their service provided. Whilst I hoped to provide a fair assessment of events, I would regret any offence I have caused to Trek America or its employees, agents, representatives etc.. We did manage to settle matters between us, as pointed out in the review. As pointed out in the review, the manager with whom I ultimately ...

Trek and travel

Advantages: see loads in a short space of time
Disadvantages: fast paced, tiring

Trek America is a travel company specialising in tours throughout America and Canada. It is not an 18-30's holiday company although most of the travellers will be this age. Trek America work under different names in other countries, I know their Australian counterpart is Let's Trek. When we decided we wanted a tour in America we considered various tour groups and decided on this one as it seemed to cover what we wanted and seemed to have a similar ...
...I would certainly go with Trek America again. He had enthusiasm and was informative. When we met with other Trek groups, it seemed that their leaders just liked to get drunk with them - as if they were the ones travelling and on holiday! Our guide really appreciated what we were there for and told us lots about the place, whilst having a great laugh with us, he even arranged an extra night in vegas for us. About half of our group were under 21 (not ...

Nothing but good times

Advantages: Adventure travel at its best - great for solo travellers
Disadvantages: NY departure hotel is expensive

...trip - any trip and Trek America is no different. I was lucky enough to have a fantastic group who after 2 years I'm still in touch with half of them (actually I am currently living with one)! I also believe that Trek suits a certain type of person. If you are adventurous, love camping, hiking and the great outdoors you will love this type of tour. If you prefer prefer 4* hotels then obviously this wont be for you. I did the Transcontinental North ...
...do. I believe that Trek have taken the best bits and made them part of the trips. The food kitty is a great idea. Everyone contributes and everyone eats - its that simple. As everyone helps out and takes turns with cooking everyone gets a say in whats cooked. We had a couple of vegetarians on our trip and made sure they always had an alternative. Teamwork is a must for a Trek trip to be sucessful. Teamwork is everywhere from buying the groceries ...

for a 1st trip this is a good company

Advantages: A safe way to see Mexico
Disadvantages: trip was too short

...had a great time with Trek America! This was my first experience of travelling on my own, and it was a safe way of travelling. It was also a good way to meet others, and considering that there was 13 girls we all got along fine!!There were unfortunately some extra costs, but i think that was me being slightly naive as the brochure does explain that some of the activites are extra. Our trip leader was an amazing guy and had travelled the area lots ...
...more spacious than you would think + it's a good workout getting all of the stuff onto the top!! you do, however, have to be prepared for some long driving days as the trips cover alot of ground, buts it's worth it to see some of the places you might not know about if you were travelling by yourslef. For a 1st trip i'd definalty recomend this company ...

South Americas most famous trek

Advantages: very strenuous, far away
Disadvantages: great scenery

When and time to go The Trek takes three full days, although the distance is only 33km. The best time to master the trek is in the dry season from May to September. But the trek will be more overcrowded at this time. I mastered the trek in the rain season in March. It was raining a full and a half day, but it was great. The advantage was that it wasn“t overcrowded. The scenery was green and not brown-burnt than in the summer time. I would favour late April or May. You must be in good physical condition, if you want to master the "Inca Trial" without porters. If you hire a porter you can master the trek in normal condition. The most strenuous part is from the last village to the Pass. Health Be aware of the altitude sickness. You can endanger your life, if you go directly by plane from Lima to Cusco and start the trek ...

Go Green Tortoise

Advantages: Great people ,great food.
Disadvantages: Restricted range of dates.

than anything companies like Trek America offer. For a two week cross country trip including food, expect to pay around $600. The company also has cheapish hostels in San Francisco and Seattle which have the same laid back attitude. The Green Tortoise isn’t for everyone but if you’re prepared to forego some personal space and get cosy, it’s one of the best ways to travel. I’m already planning my next trip… ...

Get away from here!

Advantages: all inclusive, easy to understand, cheap
Disadvantages: only travel at set dates, you may be stuck with people you don't like

I have travelled previously on my own by booking a flight to the US and travelling around the US and Canada. While I was planning this I looked at a lot of adventure package holidays but none of them were waht I was looking for. I have since discovered Exodus. A travel company which arranges treks, biking, adventure and overland holidays to europe, asia, america and africa. The brochures are easy to read and the prices include flights, food and accomodations and are cheap enough for even a student budget. It also provides safety as you travel to exotic places in groups with guides who know the area. You can get copies of the brouchures at www.exodus.co.uk. The only downfall is that they only travel on set dates! ...
