A visit to Treviso can only start from Piazza dei Signori, which is surrounded by some of the town's most significant monuments, such as the Palazzo dei Trecento (the Palace of the Three Hundred) with its remarkable frescoes and decorations, the Town's Tower and the Prefecture Palace.

Leaving the town's living room, walk through the Soffioni Portico and you will reach the picturesque Piazzetta del Monte di Pietà, where the Mont-de-Pieté ...
...of his work here in Treviso in the second half of the century.

From S.Caterina you can reach, along pretty alleys, the S.Maria Maggiore church with its harmonious façade, and from here walk to Ponte Dante, Dante's bridge, ('where the Sile accompanies the Cagnan', according to the famous verse from the Divina Commedia).Take then the road to the Ospedale Vecchio and Piazza S. Leonardo, and before going back to Piazza dei Signori, stop ... more

Treviso, the granary of Venice

Advantages: 30 Kms from Venice, 50 Kms from the Alps
Disadvantages: Buses stop at around 9pm.....

Only after leaving Treviso to settle in England, did I start deepening my understanding of the history, culture and people of the area. I re-visited my home town with open eyes. A quite important market town, its wealth was built on the water that flows even today through a network of waterways and canals, which have filled to become un-navigable with the construction of the electrical generator works near Largo Altinia and the coach and railway ...
...Like so many italian cities Treviso has pre-roman origins. The local Museo Bailo has a permanent show of artifacts found in and around this area. The museum itself is in one of the few remaining medieval streets, Santa Caterina, near piazza del Grano with its twiceweekly market (Tue and Sat) offering everything from local produce and antiques to clothes and homewares. Due to the market trade, any of the osterias fund along the market offer incredible ...

The most romantic place on earth?

Advantages: Visiting a place I had only ever seen on TV. Ice cream!!!
Disadvantages: Crowds at Rialto bridge and hungry mosquitos

I flew with Ryanair to Treviso, Italy last year to meet my parents who were travelling around Europe for a month. They took me to Lake Garda which was breathtaking and then on to Venice (a day's worth of driving). We stayed in a campsite just outside Venice (an escapade I will not be repeating in a hurry due to the vast quantity of flying and biting insects). I had heard SO MANY people saying that Venice was a dirty place, but I found it to be quite the opposite. OK at a certain time of the day (around noon) the Grand Canal does not smell the best, but the atmosphere and surrounding MORE than make up for a bit of a dodgy smell believe me! It is very easy to get lost in this city on water, but that simply adds to it's charm. There are little alleyways leading to who knows where and it's an adventure at the turn of every corner ...

Ryanair

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: no frills means no frills

Experience After looking on the internet for bargain deals it soon became very clear to me that Ryan Air was the cheapest of the no frills airlines and that their website, www.ryanair.com (see my other review) always seemed to have pretty good deals on.Booking was extremely easy but when they say no frills they mean no frills everything else apart from your seat you have to pay extra for. We booked to fly from Liverpool to Treviso (Italy) and back again at a cost of £40 for the two of us, at the time they were offering £10 flights and had a special on which meant we didn't have to pay airport taxes. We also chose to just take hand luggage and selected online check in so we didn't pay any extra fees. I was little worried about the online check in asit's something I've never tried before, you basically just print your boarding passes off at home ...

Review of Ryanair - RYR

Moving exhibition of trench warfare 7000ft up

Advantages: Well documented, easy to follow, understated, let the exhibits talk for themselves
Disadvantages: Remote town, not for younger children

An unprepossessing building on the narrow old main road through a quiet town in the Soča valley in north western Slovenia near the Italian border is home to one of the best presented and most moving of museums you are likely to find anywhere. Kobarid is surrounded by peaks of the Julian Alps, and is quite remote, being 90 minutes drive from Ljubljana and 2 hours from Treviso in Italy. = WHAT IS THE MUSEUM ABOUT? = In England, we are familiar with the horrors of life in the trenches of World War I. Here in Kobarid is a museum which is packed full of artefacts, objects and documents which give an insight into life on the Isonzo front between 1915 and 1917, when the most decisive breakthrough in that war took place leading to the rout of the Italian army. Trenches has been dug up the Isonzo (Soča) river valley, which ...
