Trevornick Holiday park is situated about four miles from Newquay town centre in Hollywell Bay. It has a five star rating from the tourist board, which is well deserved. We have stayed at the park four times since 2001 in both our own tent and a pre-erected tent (eurotent). We’ve also got another holiday booked for this year as we enjoy it so much and it has everything we need on site or close by.
The park is quite large and is divided up into separate fields which cater to different needs. Red field is for dog owners for example. There are two fields containing Eurotents and the larger SuperEuros and there are also fields close to the fishing lake and golf course. The site has plenty of facilities including a reception and information centre, a well stocked shop (although not always the cheapest), a restaurant/take away, bars, an arcade, a teenage meeting room, laundrettes, toilets, showers and family bathrooms which have baths instead of showers, an 18 hole golf course, a fishing lake, a dog walking field, indoor and outdoor children’s areas, disabled facilities, an outdoor swimming pool, hire shop and bowling alley. The park is well maintained and clean.
The range of facilities make this park especially good for families and the park‘s rule of refusing single sex groups of more than two maintains the family atmosphere. There is a children’s club which runs activities every day such as swimming and other sports and crafts. In the evenings the main club runs children’s entertainment such as a disco and competitions from 6.30 till around 9 every night. The indoor children’s play area features a ball pool and activity play equipment and children over the age of seven can be left alone to be supervised by staff for a small charge of around £1.50 per hour. Smaller children must be supervised by parents. If all this doesn’t wear kids out then there is a heated outdoor pool and an arcade with plenty of video games and grabber machines to keep them occupied. The bowling alley is small but always popular and for the moody stroppy teens there’s a club called the loft with games and pool tables.
For the adults there are the three bar areas which all cater to different tastes. The trawlers bar has a quiet atmosphere with small TV screens and a pool table. The main club is much larger and has a small dance floor and stage area. This is where the on site entertainment is staged each night. The entertainment is typical holiday park cabaret most of the time and some of it can be pretty poor but they usually have at least two or three good nights to make up for the mediocre ones. Last year was better than previous years but the entertainment tends to change each season. The last bar is a sports bar with wide screen TV showing major sporting events situated close to the golf course. Drinks in all three bars can be expensive but that can be said about most holiday park bars in the area. A pint of lager or bottle of alcopop will set you back about £2.50 each. The trawlers bar has no disabled access however and from the main club the toilets are either upstairs or, for disabled customers, in the nearest toilet block which can be a bit of a pain when the bar is full.
For those who don’t fancy cooking on a gas stove there is a restaurant and take away that serves good food all day until about 11pm. Meals can also be ordered to eat in the bar areas. The shop on site stocks plenty of food and has it’s own bakery but we usually shop in Newquay as it’s much cheaper. There’s also a chip shop in the next village and several pubs for eating out in the local area.
The accommodation varies as many people choose to take their own tent or caravan. Many sites have electrical hook ups and there are plenty of water and elsan points. Toilet blocks are large, clean and not too far from most of the pitches and the showers only cost 20p a go. The site also has a number of permanently erected eurotents. The smaller version has three bedrooms and sleeps six in real beds with a gas stove, fridge, electric points and table and chairs. The larger super euros have an extra room which can be used for a dressing room, a TV, a microwave and a picnic table as well as the facilities contained in a standard eurotent. We’re staying in a standard euro and it cost £297 for two weeks in July for two adults and two children. Please note that you do have to take your own bed linen and during peak season eurotents and supereuros can only be booked for full weeks running Saturday to Saturday but short breaks can be booked outside of peak season.
The beach is ten minutes walk or two minutes drive. It’s one of the quietest and cleanest beaches in the area and has coast guards in peak season and it's quite good for surfing and body boarding according to my bloke. The beach has a shallow seawater stream running through it which is great for small children to paddle in.
Next to the park is the Hollywell bay fun park which is no Pleasure Beach but will keep the kids amused for a while. There are various attractions including a rock climbing wall, battleships, crazy golf and arcades. Be careful because if you have more than one child it can work out quite expensive to buy the tokens.
There are bus services from the site to the local towns including Newquay and for the more sporty there is bike hire available ( although unless you’re pretty fit I’d give it a miss as the hills can be pretty steep!).
Overall this site has everything you need for a great family holiday and is within easy reach of all the local holiday attractions such as the Eden project and Land’s End. We have never had a bad experience with this holiday park and would fully recommend it to other families and couples.
