Trinidad - a Cuban treasure

Advantages: Culture, cuisine and charm
Disadvantages: Hard to leave

...to put us up in Trinidad and Pedro took us straight to his house on the edge of Trinidad’s quaint and colourful colonial old town, taking short cuts down narrow alleyways while we tried to remember landmarks. We were hungry, tired and somewhat taken aback by all the hustle and bustle going on around us. Pedro seemed to know everyone in Trinidad and shook hands with the men he met and pointed out things of interest along the short walk up the hill ...
...
Trinidad has few big tourist hotels, the few there are in the area are mainly situated on the beach a few miles away at Playa Ancon and so locals have been given more or less free reign in letting out their spare rooms. The quality varies from bare to modest luxury but they are always clean and comfortable and the hosts are always friendly and charming. At Pedro’s and Carmen’s place we made our way up to our room via a narrow staircase in ... more

A hidden treasure

Advantages: The real Cuba, full of history, and old amercian cars
Disadvantages: people begging for soap,

...When we arrived in Trinidad itself we were meet by lots of women who were begging for soap. This was a shock a people had all ways lead me to believe that its money they beg for. I would advise people to take small gift size soaps with them on holiday to hand out, as these people will happily swap handmade gifts for soap, so its not begging as such and you feel good for helping them. Walking around the streets you see how these people live, how simple ...
...atmosphere of the town is so inviting. The town is now being rebuilt and properties restored and I would love to go back when its all done. People are so friendly, and they are happy with how their lives are, or so it seems. I learnt so much about the culture, lives, history etc, and also learnt alot about me and what is important in my life. There is also some great markets there for purchasing presents and they love to haggle for items. There is ...

a perfect cuban combination

Advantages: location-10 mins from the hillls, 5 mins from the beaches
Disadvantages: none

...on the beautiful beaches then trinidad is the place to go. We went there in mid september so the humidity wasnt too unbearable but I would not have wanted to be there in mid summer so pick you times carefully. visiting the famous nightclub within a cave is a must when you are there. It is a bit of a hike to get up to the to but well worth it-$10 entry and as many rum based drinks as you can stomach cant be bad. You should also make a trip out to ...
...hikes through streams and caves which finish up at spectacular waterfalls and frezzing cold lakes. You can easily get by with the transport there, in fact it is great fun to catch the horse drawn cariages up and down the main streets, or grab a cadillac to the beach. ...

Form an orderly Cu-ba!

Advantages: Varied destinations, great people
Disadvantages: Can be hard work at times

have lost all faith in their leader; the concessions have given ordinary Cubans the chance to shape their own destinies and it is down to these concessions that Cuban tourism is starting the slow march to make up for lost time. WHERE TO GO Cuba offers travellers a wide range of destinations and activities - beautiful beaches, historic colonial cities, historic revolutionary monuments, an astonishing number of museums and large areas of wildlife reserves. No trip would be complete without a visit to Havana, Cuba's bustling capital city, the biggest and busiest city in the Caribbean. The old towns in both Havana and in Trinidad de Cuba on the south coast are UNESCO protected and offer the chance to explore some wonderful colonial architecture. Further east from Trinidad, Santiago de Cuba is the party capital of Cuba with unmissable ...

Varadero - Cuba's largest holiday resort

Advantages: Relaxing, White sand and glorious beaches
Disadvantages: Boring

can become boring and monotonous. Day trips to Havana and Trinidad are expensive and during these excursions you are shepherded from one sight to another without time to enjoy the wonder and atmosphere of Cuba. If you are looking for a long time sitting around doing nothing then this is fine but don?t be fooled, this is not the real Cuba. ...

Havana ball in Cuba!

Advantages: Loads to see and do, great people
Disadvantages: Many hustlers, can become tiring

at short notice for seemingly inexplicable reasons. OLD HAVANA While the colonial streets of Havana are very beautiful and contain some of the most visited attractions in the city, I would suggest that if your travel plans include Trinidad de Cuba on the south coast you should limity the time you spend here and concentrate on other areas of the city instead. For me, Trinidad's streets are mor attractive and more pleasant to stroll around. Many of the old colonial buildings in Havana are currently under restoration and so it can be difficult to appreciate their beauty under several tonnes of scaffolding whilst battling against the noise of the machinery. However, there are some must see attractions in Old Havana so it would be crazy not to spend at least a few hours here. Within Old Havana there are two distinct areas. The first is ...
