Sunday at Maracas Bay

Advantages: Local food, beautiful
Disadvantages: Need a car

...or in fact popular than Maracas Bay. As you drive over the Maracas hills the view of the Moka golfcourse can be seen as well as the lower valley. The temperature actually changes and the air begins to get fresher as you drive upward to the top of the mountain, the road lined with trees on the hillside. As you begin descending, you approach a couple small sheds where you can buy preserves of local fruits, including pepper mango, pepper pine, soaked ...
...on these you then arrive at a large lookout with a stunning view of the bay below. You usually see many small tents with local craft and foods that you can buy. Once you approach the beach, the smell of car brakes fills the air as the final descent is very steep. The joy of Maracas Bay

Advantages: Easy to get to, extremely beautiful
Disadvantages: Always teeming with people

...white sand and flowing waves. Maracas is very popular both with the locals and the tourists alike, and is comparable to many of the beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. Along the beach you can see small sheds offering some solace from the 32 degree sun, as well as lots of coconut trees offering shade... but be careful for dried coconuts falling!
