Jimmy's Holiday Shelter Advantages: Close to the beach. Disadvantages: Read my review ...access by the pool. Jimmy's pool is FENCED and opens at 8 am and closes at 9 pm!!! SERIOUSLY! To top it all off the first night we realised that we were given sheets to cover with in the air conditioned bedrooms. SHEETS!! Anyone who sleeps in a/c knows that you'd freeze under sheets!! They're completely useless. NOT to mention the obvious BLOOD STAINS on 2 sheets, which they refused to change for us. (They said they had no clean sheets and they weren’t ... ...matter??? Point is - WE DIDNT GET CLEAN SHEETS! And because we paid upfront obviously it would have been no loss to them if we left. SO THERE you have it! Jimmy's is a dump! Now off to another resort to test it out. I’ll let you know. ... Le Grand Courlan resort and Spa Advantages: Having a spa treatment included in the price Disadvantages: The waves and undertow on the beach I have been to this resort twice, the first to get married and the second just to see if our recollection of the place lived up to the memories of the first time. Both times I have to say were excellent. The staff are very helpful and attentive but not in a pushy way. The rooms vary according to the grade you have booked, the first time we had a garden view Jacuzzi room which was fabulous the second time we had an ocean view room which was great ... ...steps and across a small road and is Ok! It is a sandy beach but sometimes the waves and undertow can be a bit strong. The daily spa treatment is amazing. On arrival you are given a timetable of you included treatments, if for some reason a time or treatment is not suitable they will try and change it but sometimes due to the other bookings may not be able to. However I fully recommend having a back massage it did totally relax me. Sundeck suites friendly staff and good location Advantages: Central location and close to everything in the town Disadvantages: an hour from the nearest beach ...and airconditioning. Sundeck is ideal for local restaurants, and a pharmacy, supermarket and internet cafe 5 mins away. A must to visit is Trotters on Maraval road a 5 minute walk away, also the local roti and curry houses in maraval road. It is ideally suited for an early morning walk around the Savannah the biggest round about in the world where you will be joined by early joggers and walkers as well as people doing circuit training. A taxi ride ... ...for excellant eateries and also to West Mall for a superb shopping experience. Definately a place to be in the centre of it all, and you can take a maxi cab to maracus bay or Chagaramus. Or watch a movie in Movie Town. Great value for money Advantages: Value for money Disadvantages: Pool quite small and shaded We stayed at Bonkers in January 2006. We had great reviews of this hotel from friends, who had visited it before, purely because the restuarant is well known and was apparently amazing. It was also the cheapest hotel I could find that had very good reviews. However the chef had changed as he got head hunted by a larger hotel, and when we were there I would say the food was good, but not what I think it had been previously. Somestimes the service ... ...pretty large but basic with bed, wardrobes and table and chairs. They do have good air con though. Same goes for the bathroom. There is quite a lot of storage space. Or you can pay more and stay in a room nearer the pool (but this also means nearer the restaurant = noise) and I think it has extra space and possibly a fridge. Sweet life at Royal Palm Suite! Advantages: Close to shopping centre/ city centre Disadvantages: Shops close early, rooms slightly pricey ...I decided to try the Royal Palm Suite Hotel in Maraval. Having stayed in quite a few hotels and having heard positive reviews from family members, I decided to give it a shot and hopefully have an enjoyable stay. The hotel is mid sized with 70 or so rooms or suites, and is a family run local hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly and always had a smile or a kind word. LOCATION The hotel is a 20 minute drive from the Piarco International ... ...choices being the Ballroom, the Royal Room, the Conference Room and the Pirate's Hideout, which are all used to regularly host graduations, seminars weddings and parties. There is a pool facility located on site at the rear of the building which is fairly large and semi circled shaped. The hotel provides a business centre which does photocopying, faxing and printing for all business travellers.
