Advantages: Bags of history, fantastic tour guides, beautiful views Disadvantages: None noticable
and treacherous fighting between Gladiators and wild beasts was considered family entertainment. The wealthiest members of society would have been sat in the lower level, followed by knights on the second tier, middle class above that, and slaves, peasants, women and prostitutes on the top tier some 100 feet above ground level.
I could continue to go on about the wonderful history of the Colosseum but instead I urge you to go and see/hear it all for yourself. My trip to Rome would not have been nearly as memorable without having been to this amazing landmark and historical site. Rome is a beautiful city but would have been just another European city if I had not experienced the Colosseum. This one monument of history set Romeapart from the cities I have visited before it and will keep my memory of Rome alive for many years to come. ...

Advantages: Beautiful, historic, lots of things to see Disadvantages: Tiring!
If you are looking for a great sigtseeing weekend away in Europe with plenty of history and amazing, steeped in tradition things to see then Rome is the city for you. I was taken there two years ago by my husband and absolutely loved it. Definitely one of the best sites to see is the Colosseum for the sheer wonder of it. The queue to get tickets was unbelieveable so we joined a group by paying 10 Euros more I think and that got us in a lot quicker. it's better to do this than show yourself around. The price then also included an audio pack that you could listen to as you went around the Colosseum. As soon as we got in we ditched our tour guide and looked around the palce ourself ...
Advantages: An unusual and dramatic experience.. Disadvantages: If you have to queue in the sun.
Visiting the Colosseum in Rome is an experience you will not forget. I did not know what to expect when I went there.Everyone has seen photographs of the outside of the Colosseum and the inside as it once was has been reconstructed in many film sets. What did I really expect to see; I do not know but I suppose that I thought I would be disappointed at how little of it was intact or looked authentic. this was not the case though.
From the outside the Colosseum Rome is a strange building, when you try to take photographs of it you seem to notice how some pieces of its structure look at odd angles to other parts of it. There are usually long queues of tourists waiting to get into the Colosseum. Outside there are 'Romans' dressed up as ancient Romans and they are there to make money from tourists who pay them to have their photograph ...
