My husband and I went twice to Kenya, the first time the safari's were only for two nights, but the scenery was spectacular, it was barren and you could see lions hippopotomus, giraffes and elephants, there were ostrich and she must have been a mother as there were little ones running beside her. there was wild boar with frightening horns, there were teripins mounds all in red sandy clay. We had travelled with Kuoni as my poor hubby was made redundant. So it was his idea to travel afar the journey on the plane it's self was a dream. when we arrived at the airport in Mombasa we were taken to our base hotel. That was the start of the bumpy roads, but it was worth it when we arrived the complex was marble flooring and there were five pools, you could sit at your balcony and watch the Indian oceon very close by, the sand was soft but there were beach boys and they would try to sell you anything, they would even swap an old pair of shoes for something that they had on their stalls. There was entertainment every night after dinner, and they made a song about it, Then there were barbeques and fruit. If you wanted coconut milk, a young man would climb a tree, quite a height and get one for you. My favourite drink was pure Mango juice.
We went first to Voi Lodge and there were baboons running round all the windows and stealing soap from the rooms, As we sat out after dinner there were Rock Hyrax running around our feet. The hotel was very nice and the kenyons are so polite, they would put us to shame as most of them can speak seven languages .
There was a water Hole below and in the distance you could see a line of elephants coming for a drink. You could go under a tunnel to take photographs, which my husband did. They came in a line with the biggest first and the babies at the back holding on to their mother's tail.
From Voi we headed to Ngala Lodge which was higher up, as we travelled we could see storks sitting on rooftops.
Nygala Lodge was all marble flooring, and we wondered why the dining room was open, There were squirrels and a type of stork which pinched the rolls from the table at the side. They had a visitors book which made interesting reading, one entry said that they had seen nothing, and the entry below put in,we saw every thing and heh! heh! to you.!!!
After dinner we sat on soft seats and wondered why there was a tree just in front of the wall? We soon discovered that a young kenyan man had gone over the wall with a big chunk of meat to tempt a cheetah, We did not have long to wait as they eat only once and that is at night.
It was a fantastic holiday and we swore we would come back again.which we did two years later, and did a five day safari, which took you past the Masia Mara enclosure. we met the chief and he told us that he had to kill a lion to get a wife,he had two and they slept in different huts to him.
Then we proceded to Amboseli Lodge which was absoulutly beautiful. very classy and not what we were excpeting. The Dining room has a very high round roof with Elephants engraved on the stone wall. The bedrooms were sumptious with mosqitoe nets draped all round the bed, from your room you could see Wilderbeast in droves behind the fence. There wass a pool, but unfortunatly we had left bathing costumes behind as we did not expect pools on safari, how wrong can you be?

Advantages: Amazing wildlife and the most breath-taking scenery I have ever laid eyes on Disadvantages: The only disadvantage I can think of is having to travel up the Mombasa/Nairobi road - an adventure in itself
