Animal hospital - Turtle Beach Style

Advantages: Guaranteed to see a logger head, the staff are totally devoted to the cause
Disadvantages: It is soul destroying and very upsetting seeing the turtles in this state

The loggerhead turtle (“Caretta Caretta”) is a unique selling point of the area and the people of Dalyan use these magnificent creatures to boost tourism. Turtle gifts and souvenirs can be bought almost everywhere. From key rings, mugs, statues, photos, and t-shirts. If there is room to put a turtle on it then a turtle will be put on it. The increase in tourism has led to an increase in boats, which has led to an increase in injured turtles. As you’re ...
...created it. The Turtle sanctuary was set up to assist these injured turtles on their road to recovery. Whilst it is primarily set up for the endangered loggerhead turtles the sanctuary will also look after the more common green sea turtles, although I didn’t notice any during my visit, which I found strange. Surely the sea turtles get hit by the propellers, or are they more intelligent than the loggerheads and move out of the way of the boats? Or ...

Aqua Park

Advantages: Lots of activities
Disadvantages: You'll hate it if you don't like water!

On a recent visit to Didim, a resort close to Bodrum in Turkey, eldest son, who had been there for a couple of months, insisted that we HAD to go to the water park. Not being a great fan, I agreed reluctantly, imagining all kinds of horrors...huge queues to get on any of the slides, cramped areas, and dirty pools. However, who am I to refuse? himself, being a fan of them wanted to go along as well, so the two of them eventually dragged me away from ...
...This was really simple, in that there is a courtesy coach which takes you from the centre of the town, passes Apollo and after 15 minutes, deposits you at the park. One thing to remember, though, whilst they are keen to get you to the park, at the end of the day, the coaches are VERY infrequent and have to be paid for, if you can actually find one. Cost... To get in costs 30 Turkish lira, which translated at today's exchange rate is about £12. ...

Tour of Turkey

Advantages: Nice Weather, lots of interesting places
Disadvantages: Tourist areas are slightly too commercial

I have been to Turkey many times as my husband is Turkish. The first place I visited was Gumbet, which is a bout a 10 minute drive from Bodrum. Gumbet is quite small compared to other places in Turkey but very tourist orientated. It is full of bars, shops, hotels and restaurants. The one thing I noticed was that most of the tourists I met had heard Turkey was so cheap and really in tourist areas it's not. Yes if you are looking for fake jeans, t-shirts ...
...(every time we went to Turkey the one complaint I always had no matter were we stayed was the fridge - they were never cold!!). The staff were very friendly but the pool was tiny, infact I have never seen a pool so tiny! It was literally about 5m long by 4m wide. Sami Plaza - This was one of my favourites. The pool area was really nice, the rooms were nice and clean. The staff were friendly. The location was really good as it was on the main street. ...

Gallipoli - fascinating, moving and unforgettable

Advantages: Pay your respects to the dead, fascinating history, beautiful scenery
Disadvantages: None

...ancestors. Having now visited the Gallipoli battlefields myself, I have to say I feel pretty awful for even thinking such a thing: yes, our Antipodean friends certainly do play hard but I must say that I feel privileged to have shared what is for many the experience of a lifetime with such a decent bunch of people. Of all the places I have visited on my varied and numerous travels, it is this trip that I will always look upon as the most memorable, ...
...There is a town called Gallipoli (Gelibolu in Turkish) but this is about forty kilometres north of the battlefields. The peninsula forms the northern side of the straits known as the Dardanelles that lie at the eastern end of the Sea of Marmara. Throughout the centuries many naval fleets have tried to take the Dardanelles and nearly all have failed to do so. The late nineteenth century saw a decline in the fortunes of the Ottoman Empire and the English ...

excellent diving sites, especially at night

Advantages: wildlife, night diving, wreck
Disadvantages: expensive to get to

...dive sites available in the turks and caicos islands. mainly i have been diving in grand turk, and would definately recommend it. It is also a beautiful island and good getaway holiday resort. The night diving there, is arguably the best in the world, or second to the great barrier. However, if you are a big fan of wreck diving, there is not a great deal. There is only one diveabl wreck in the whole of the turks and caicos, and is is quite a way, ...
