Myself, my husband and two children went to the Turtle Beach Resort in Barbados in October 2007 to get married. On arrival we were greeted by a rather rude receptionist called Kacedy, She had no idea of any answers to our questions regarding our wedding and told us to ask somebody else. We were then brought up a Rum cocktail which was vile. Within the first 10 minutes of arriving i just wanted to go home. After about an hour we were escorted to our room and our bags were taken down by a member of staff on a trolley. Our room was very nice,it was decorated in bright exotic colours which i thought was really nice. We had a terrace instead of a balcony which our travel agent advised because of the children, although a balcony would have been much safer with the children as our room opened right onto the swimming pool and my youngest daughter kept running towards it when we had the patio doors open. We requested a cot for my daughter, when we arrived back from dinner on the first evening there was a grotty old cot out side our room with no mattress, there was no way i was going to put my little girl in that so she shared a double bed with my other little girl instead.
I thought things couldn't get any worse but it was the first day and we were all very tired and grumpy from the long flight, so i decided to get to bed early and hopefully things would start to look up.
The next morning we went to breakfast which was served between 7.30-10.00 , the food was great and had lots of choice from cereal to fried breakfast to croissants to cakes.
After breakfast we went to the pool which was lovely, clean and very warm, my children loved it and there were plenty of sunbeds around. The pool was next to the waterside restaurant which served drinks all when ever you wanted them, and lunch so you didn't have to walk far if you were planning to sit around the pool all day. Lunch was nice too , usually a buffet or a BBQ and lots of nice deserts. Around 5pm there wasn't much to do as dinner didn't start until 6pm which you have to book about 3 days in advance to get in that early, so we usually eat around 8-9. The evening meal was ok usually a la carte which i didn't really enjoy, the menu was full of weird foods i had never heard of, and my children wouldn't eat any of it. Occasionally they done a buffet which was alot better i thought. How ever the Italian restaurant was amazing, the food and service was excellent, but only children over 12 were aloud in there so we could only go there twice through out our holiday.
They did have a kids club which i wouldn't recommend using, my daughter went for an hour and was so board all they do is colour and do jigsaws or sit around the tv. They had a plan on the board of what they would be doing for the day which was complete rubbish. My daughter and the other children at the resort never done any of it. However if you do have your children and you want time on your own i would recommend the baby sitting service which was very cheep and alot better because the children could go to bed and the sitter would sit in your room with them, you have to pay for the sitters taxi home if after 10pm which is cheep also.
The hotel was situated right on the beach which was gorgeous. We only went down there a couple of times though as there were alot of locals selling various things from drugs to foot massages and they just wouldn't leave us alone which was very annoying as we just wanted to relax and the children wanted to play. The sea was very rough, there was no way the children could go in. My husband went in and was called back to shore by the security guard as it was so rough.
On the day of the wedding we were met by crystal the wedding co-ordinator. She was very nice and helpful, The wedding was beautiful we got married on the beach, had photographs taken by a local photographer which turned out beautifully, had cake and champaign which was lovely.
I have to say the hotel was very clean, i only saw one cockroach which was removed by staff as soon as it was seen, although there are little lizards and big red crabs running around but there's not alot they can do about them as its expected from a hotel on the beach in the Caribbean.
There is not alot to do here apart from relax and swim, the excursions were so expensive. The hotel did run a free bus to Bridgetown daily but you need so much money to shop there as all the shops were fine jewellery stores or designer clothes.
Over all i enjoyed my time here but wouldn't go back again, Turtle Beach is not really a place for children, its more for upper class couples wanting a relaxing holiday.
Advantages: Every whim is catered to Disadvantages: Sea a little rough for small children
Went to Turtle Beach Hotel to get married. Have to say it was fabulous. It is a large hotel on the South Coast of Barbados, 20 minutes from the airport. It has around 164 rooms, each one is bright, airy and clean, with air con, ceiling fan, television and fridge. This is an all inclusive resort and there are 3 restaurants to choose from, all serving lovely food, some times it was buffet and sometimes it was a la carte. You can find great deals, but ... ...have seen varying prices, for June you could go for a week for a price of 204 GB pounds per night for the room, which includes all inclusive food and drinks. Flights, you can get a flight with XL Airways for approx 450 GB pounds depending on when you go.
There is plenty to do, lovely swimming pools, first class pure white sandy beach, but beware, the sea is usually very rough. It would not be safe for small children as there is a strong current, ...
