Alton Towers, Park Of Laughs & Screams!

Advantages: Screamathon, Fast, Thilling
Disadvantages: Expensive, Pay for Parking

=== The Journey & Park Location ===

Alton Towers is situated in Alton, Staffordshire and is very easy to get too. My first visit to the theme park was when I was in year 10 at school and all I could remember of the journey was the very small windy lanes leading ...
...thinking was "what if a double-decker bus comes round the corner!" Thankfully one didn't and I lived to tell the tale.

On this trip I was cautious of the lanes as it was the first time I had driven in the area. I need not have worried I found the trip hassle-free and the location easy to find with my auto route directions. Once you get to the entrance signs to the park you are required to drive about a mile down a road leading ... more

Love is in the AIR

Advantages: A great day out, some amazing rides
Disadvantages: Long queues

It’s the summer holidays and for most kids this can end up being quite boring if there’s nothing to do. This year I took my second visit to Alton Towers theme park. I visited the park on a Sunday as part of a bus trip that was being ran by Durham city coaches. The price for the day was £31.50, which was my bus there and back and my entry into the park. Normal prices differ due to peak or off peak times (see below). From Washington the journey to ...
...the park until 12. We had to be back at the bus for quarter to 6 giving us 5hours and 45minutes. We all thought this would be ample time to explore and go on the rides but in order to see the whole park I would recommend getting there early. Alton towers is owned by Tussards, which has a total of 6 places throughout the UK. It is a theme park with some of the most famous rides including the Oblivion which is the first ever roller coaster with a ...

Oh those wonderful Towers of Alton

Advantages: Best rides in the world and lots to do
Disadvantages: Can be pricey and busy at peak times - cleaner toilets needed

...old with new. The Tussauds group decided to throw a few rides around the towers some 25 years ago and have continued to build on that ever since. Alton Towers is now the UK’s largest theme park and in my opinion, on par with some of the worlds best theme parks and attractions. The Tussauds group own many other leisure parks, including Chessington and Madam Tussauds but have used Alton Towers as their prized jewel in the entertainment crown of Great ...
...I have been to Alton Towers many times in the past and have no troubling in coming to terms with the fact that its almost 200 miles away from London. However, given the fact that I’ve been to almost every theme park in the UK, I knew that making the journey would have its rewards. Alton Towers is located in Staffordshire, near Derby and Stoke on Trent and can be accessed from some main roads and motorways. BY CAR - Use the M1 junction 23 for travellers ...

A Great Day Out

Advantages: Something for all ages
Disadvantages: Lots of walking

I recently went to Alton Towers for the third time. It was a rainy day and we got hailed on too but we still managed to have a great time, despite the weather. Oblivion - Now it took a lot of persuading to get me on this one, and boy was I terrified. I wanted to get off but it was too late. It went up, up, up and my heart was pounding. The tension was incredible as it held us over the edge, and an almighty scream from somewhere deep inside me came ...
...was shaking and almost in tears, my stomach felt funny - it was great! I can't wait to go on it again!! Nemesis - this looks a lot worse than it is, you dont really even feel yourself going upsidedown. I would definatly reccomend this ride, it's fantastic, you get such a rush, but as ever, it's over much too soon. Air - Now this ride looked like a scorcher, it's a shame I didnt get to try it out. Luckily it has one of those virtual queues, so queing ...

Good day out, wish i could have taken my bycycle.

Advantages: Scenic country settings. Lovely gardens. Good fun.
Disadvantages: Queues. Parking charges add to the cost.

Alton towers is the flagship of the Merlin group. Its a huge area of land set in some of the most picturesque scenery in England. The surrounding area is full of green fields, quaint buildings, towers and castles. As I said the park is massive. the gardens are superb. Topiery at its best. One way to see it all is to travel all around using the cable car, a breathtaking experience. To walk through would take an age but well worth it. The buiding/castle ...
...redevlopement and will house no doubt another attraction. As I said, this place is big and me being a little on the older side, wished I could have taken my bike. There are a few hill climbs in places. Merry mayhem has gone and has been themed into a pirate area, an arcade in this area, offering the usual coin slots, cranes and videos. Plenty of food joints. I liked the one in the courtyard, eat drink and be merry, while being entertained by a pirate ...

Excuse Me Madame- Please May I Have A Refund?

Advantages: Great exhibitions/models
Disadvantages: Expensive, Too crowded, Food prices

If you have read any of my other reviews you will understand that I have a great deal of affection for Merlin Entertainments (the company which owns Tussauds which owns Madame Tussauds, Alton Towers etc) and that on any given occasion I would much rather praise them then boot them into Oblivion (no pun intended.) Whilst Merlin is ownership to some of the most impressive tourist hot spots in the UK (the London Eye being one and Warwick Castle being another) some of their attractions are unfortunately a hit and miss affair. Whilst some (such as Alton Towers and Thorpe Park) take off like a sparrowhawk others (such as the lacklustre Legoland and Madame Tussauds) bomb and leave you feeling perhaps as cold as the weather in Blighty. At £25 for adults and £21 for children (£85 for a family of 4) Madame Tussauds is pretty expensive, and so ...

Thorpe Park review

Advantages: great rides, lots to do
Disadvantages: crowded, expensive, too many chavs

Thorpe Park, owned by the Madame Tussauds group (who also own Chessington and Alton Towers) is a major theme park located in Surrey. The rides at Thorpe Park are very good. They offer a great mix of adrenaline and variety (I particularly like detonator - where's you're basically dropped from a height of 50 m or so). There are several rollercoasters, featuring many loop the loops and barrel rolls etc, as well as lots of other rides just designed to scare the crap out of you! Apart from the rides, Thorpe Park doesn't offer much. It's got a few unhealthy 'restaurants', such a Pizza Hut, Burger King etc, and I would particularly recommend the all-you-can-eat Pizza Hut buffet, which costs around £7 per person and gives you unlimited food and drink. There are several downsides to Thorpe Park, and the main is the queues. It's very ...

The UK's Most Exciting Ticket

Advantages: Brilliant value for money, visit all the UK's top attractions.
Disadvantages: Restrictions... (this doesn't bother me).

Merlin Annual Pass I found out about the Merlin Annual Pass when I was at Legoland Windsor with my mum. We were going there to renew our Legoland Windsor "Restricted Pass"s. But to our surprise, the team member said they were restricting it even more. We couldn't visit in the August bank holidays, half term, or any of the popular no-school days. Then the member of staff told us about the Merlin Annual Pass. (I already knew about this.) So me and my mum decided to get them. (My dad got one a few days after). What does it do? The Merlin Annual Pass enables you to visit the UK's top attractions for twelve months. These are the attractions you can visit: # Legoland Windsor # Thorpe Park # Chessington World of Adventures # Alton Towers # The Dungeons # Warwick Castle # London Eye # Sea Life # Sea Life Sanctuaries # Madame ...
