MONKEY AROUND WITH ME !

Advantages: Eductional treat
Disadvantages: wasps

...experiences with my own children. Twycross Zoo is one of those experiences that we return to year in, year out.

In an ideal world I would love the opportunity to introduce my children to these wonderful animals in their natural habitat, but seeing as so many of them are sadly now rare and protected species and I am no closer to winning the lottery and being able to afford a trip around the world, the local zoo is the next best thing. ...

Twycross Zoo opened to the public in 1963. The zoo was the brainchild of Molly Badham and Nathalie Evans, who started out as the owners of a humble pet shop and now own what is in fact the 5th largest zoo in Great Britain. It houses the UK's best primate collection and is acclaimed by zoologists and conservationists throughout the world for its success in breeding endangered animals.

Specialist Primate Centre

Advantages: A specialist primate conservation centre, plus other animals.
Disadvantages: Could be better laid out, bad behaviour of visitors.

Twycross Zoo specialises in caring for and breeding primates, and has links with organisations trying to protect primates in the wild, and other zoos breeding them. It also tries to educate us about its apes, monkeys and lemurs, as well as non-primate creatures. Other creatures you should see here include elephants, lions, giraffes, penguins, sea-lions and otters. I have been to Twycross Zoo twice. The first time was about 25 years ago, when it ...
...pm winter. *** Twycross versus Monkey World *** Twycross is a good zoo both in what it provides for the animals and their visitors. The reason I feel that I have to drop one star from their rating is that it is not as good a place to visit as Monkey World in Dorset, for the able bodied. (Monkey World is the only other specialist primate centre that I know of in the UK.) At Monkey World the inhabitants have much larger enclosures, especially the ...

Poppa's taking us to the zoo tomorrow,

Advantages: Lots of lovely animals
Disadvantages: Not a very big zoo

...to Measham car sales and Twycross Zoo just happens to be very close by so he thought he would kill two birds with one stone (I'm sure killing things and zoo's shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath now I come to think) and drop me and small person off at the zoo on the way. Twycross zoo can be found on the A444 near Atherstone in Warwickshire, just off the M42 and don't ask me to be more specific. Map reading isn't one of my specialities and ...
...I can remember going to Twycross years ago when the speciality was the chimps tea party and this is where they used to get the chimps for all the Brooke Bond adverts. They must have decided that this wasn’t a pleasant pastime for monkeys, dressing up and supping tea to amuse spectators and this has now been abolished. Apparently the zoo has been on the go for over 40 years and was originally a private zoo. I'm sure you don't want a complete run ...

Twycross Zoo

Advantages: Ensuring the survival of endangered species
Disadvantages: Enclosures just not big enough

...few days ago a visited Twycross Zoo with my children, It had been a good few years since I have been there, I think the last time I visited was when I was a school. Upon arriving, you are directed to a parking place this is on grass, parking is free, then you make your way to the kiosks to pay for your entry. Admissions fees are: Adults £9.00 Children £5.00 Senior Citizen £6.50 Family Ticket £27.00 (this consists of 2 adults and 2 children) ...

Most animals can roam free in here apart from the dangerous ones like snakes and spiders, which are ...

Twycross - They still have their large animals

Advantages: Have some of the bigger animals, loads of monkeys
Disadvantages: You might want to take a monkey home with you.

We visited Twycross Zoo at the end of the summer holidays (me, hubby, sons aged 1 and 3). Having been slightly disappointed with my visit to Bristol Zoo I wasn't hopeful that this zoo would be any better. Where is it? ---------------- As the name suggests it is in the town of Twycross in Warwickshire, found on the A444. ...pencil, pens, pad etc. with Twycross etched on them and various jewellery, cold drinks and snacks. Would I recommend a visit there? ---------------------------------------------- Yes I would, it was a completely different experience to Bristol zoo, I loath to say better as Bristol had lots of exhibitions of smaller animals such as bugs and the aquarium which were not at Twycross, but if you want to see larger animals this is the zoo for you! ...

Twycross Zoo

Advantages: Educational, value for money, well maintained
Disadvantages: Exposed to the weather, a lot of walking - no set route to follow

I've been to Twycross Zoo roughly 4 times in the last 5 years and have been most impressed with it every time I've been. The great thing about this place is that it's open 364 days a year, with only Christmas day out of bounds to the public. Despite its rural location, it is only four miles from the M42/A42 (which links the M1 and M6) making it readily accessible from anywhere in central England. (Although previously we have ended up in Tamworth ...

Zoo, My house is a Zoo so why visit one

Advantages: learning children about animals that they have never seen.
Disadvantages: The cost mounts up, but nothings free these days

Twycross Zoo is a MUST for people with children. The zoo is open thought out the year. In summer it is open 10.00am until 5.30pm. In the winter it is open from 10.00am until 4.00pm (closed Christmas day) Twycross Zoo has breading programmes for threatened species and provides education, not to mention the study and wonder it gives to it’s visitors. The zoo has taken many steps to ensure that you and your children are safe and free from danger whilst exploring that’s many attractions. There are railings; fences and walls to ensure those little wondering fingers don’t come to any harm. There are many picnic areas with access to your car at all times. I thought this was a really nice place to eat. It is a good idea also for those of us wanting to take your own choices of food and drinks. The meal prices are quite ...

Weekend Away - Amazing location..

Advantages: Not far from Twycross Zoo - Excellent Zoo, stunning surroundings
Disadvantages: Unfriendly, rooms needed some care (a good clean or revamp)

with an ashtray. Breakfast ok - Waitress was on the night before and she tried to haggle on the supposed Free bottle of wine. She was a tad grumpy, they did have highchairs, needed a clean but ok. Checked out with not a smile or hope you enjoyed your stay. Good luck Brittania on working on this place... Staff need a little training, rooms a little bit of tender care and in those surroundings - it would be excellent - Twycross Zoo however highly recommended. ...

Review of Bosworth Hall Hotel, Market Bosworth

Monkey Business

Advantages: Fairly cheap day out with lots of attractions
Disadvantages: none

Twycross zoo is in Leicestershire near a little village called Twycross. This is one of the biggest and best zoos around. It opened in 1963 and covers about 50 acres of land. Currently it averages about 400,000 visitors a year, which proves how popular it is. I must admit I`d never heard of it until my father-in-law took us there, but it is a day out all our family will always remember. The zoo became a charitable trust in 1972 and receives no government funding, in spite of this it is still relatively cheap. Prices: Adults - £6.50, Children - £4.50, Senior Citizens - £5.00 It also offers a membership option. Membership runs from 1st April to 31st March. Membership Prices: Adult - £25.00, Joint Adult - £42.00, Junior(3-16) or full time student - £12.00. Membership includes free entrance for the whole membership year ...
