Introduction ************ Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon has been open since 1988. It has been regarded as the number 1 theme parks for the last few years running and has continued to do so.
Playing the Part ****************** All of Disney’s theme parks always have a theme which is a story to how the park came to be or something to bring children’s imaginations to life. Typhoon Lagoon follows the story that there is a massive storm that takes place and various objects, buildings and boats such as Miss Tilly get blown to a new location where it creates Typhoon Lagoon.
Attractions ************* Castaway Creek – The Castaway Creek covers the entire park making a very large circle that takes 20 minutes for a person to get around under the speed of the current. The circuit consists of five different landing that people can get on and off which are all name after fish (keeping to the theme).
A person sits in a rubber ring or tube which comes in a single adult size, a double or a child’s tube. The
current is nice a gentle and allows for a relaxing ride on a tube where some people can be known to easily go to sleep. Excellent for chilling with the family on a hot day.
The current takes crowds through different scenes from a gloomy cave, a rain forest to a raft entrance. There are different gimmicks along the way such as water cannons that people standing by can use to spray you.
Wave Machine – The wave machine is situated under Miss Tilly (a washed up ship in the centre of the park) where it can be seen from the centre of the beach next to the clock tower. When Miss Tilly blows her horn three times it indicates that a large wave is about begin which encompasses the whole of the wall of up to 7 feet tall and stretches out towards the beach. As this happens people usually line up in their herds to attempt to swim into the wave. Vast amounts of fun for the whole family.
If Miss Tilly sounds her horn twice then this indicates that small but continuous waves are about to begin. These aren’t as good as the large waves but still offer a lot of fun when swimming out into them.
Shark Reef – Shark Reef is a reef with a depth of up to 10.5 feet that contains sea life such as sting rays and sharks amongst other types of fish. People are given a snorkel and mask and are allowed to swim from one side of the reef to the other side whilst looking down onto the fish below. As you look down its as if your looking into a completely different world with lots to look at.
You must be thinking “How could Disney let us do this?”, the sharks are not dangerous as they prefer to stay on the bottom away from humans but they are a relation of the famous hammer head shark which can be seen when looking at them. The water is definitely the coldest of all the water attractions in the park but this is for the fish to live in the salt waters.
Kiddie View – Got young kids? If you think that’s a problem your wrong. Kiddie View allows kids of 48 inches and under to go and play on slides, toys and complete scene designed and created just for them.
Gang Plank Falls – Gang Plank Falls is where you are given a rubber tube that can contain four people. It needs to be carried up a small flight of stairs to the beginning of the ride where everyone gets on and you are launched down a slide as the tube twirls around rapidly. Excellent ride. Great for family fun.
Safety ********* With all the attractions that Typhoon Lagoon has on offer safety needs to play a very large role in the water park therefore lifeguards are in place at every landing along the lazy river, every slide or pool.
Opening Hours **************** Typhoon Lagoon is very seasonal. It closes for November and December where refurbishment of the park takes places. Winter the opening times are reduced compared to summer. As summer continuous the park usually stays open for much longer hours which goes up to 9am to 8pm. At the moment the parks current opening hours are 9am to 7.30pm however this will change within the coming weeks.
Florida is extremely well known for its ability to turn the weather from being beautiful to dark and dismal within blink of an eye. When this happens and a storm is heading towards the park, the park usually closes until it passes over. In this time rides are closed and people usually go under cover to get away from the elements.
Refreshments are not included in the price however lockers and towels that are needed are.
Location - Where is it? ************************** Address:- 1494 E Buena Vista Dr, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830
Features Directions - Certain features can be used to find Typhoon Lagoon even though it is well sign posted after the entrance to Disney. One of the main features is that Typhoon Lagoon is just down the road from Down Town Disney.
Things to take with you ************************* Money – Money is going to be needed for food etc. Money can be kept in lockers which are supplied by the park on entry.
Swimwear - Typhoon Lagoon is a water park so your definitely going to need a swim suit of some kind.
Camera – A camera is a must to remember those memories however water proof cameras can be bought from near by shops.
Sun Cream – Being out in the sun all day could make you burn so sun cream is a MUST.
Towel – Towels can be taken but towels are supplied by the park which can be picked up and thrown away easily.
Recommendations ********************** A must see water park for all the family. It offers loads to keep everyone busy and happy for the day. I would definitely recommend it.
