Super Skiing in Soll and Scheffau

Advantages: 2 good nursery slopes, several blue and red slopes
Disadvantages: some instructors were incapable of actually teaching!

...valley surrounded by mountains in Tyrol region of Austria. Ski garage (where boots and skis can be stored for approx 6 euros for week) and ski lifts are short walk from town (10 mins when wearing ski boots) and adjacent to nursery slopes. Several pubs with live bands and mulled wine for 'apres-ski' that open around 4pm. Later on in the evening tends to have a young and lively (but not too raucous) ambience with games, music, karaoke and more live ...
...The Whisky Muhle is a pub on one side and a nightclub on the other (large building)and I would recommend to anyone who is intersted in watching sport and listening to live bands in early evening and then later on to people who want cheap beer in a friendly nightclub setting.

Two good supermarkets: Spa and MPreis. The latter is cheaper for wine, beer and buying larger quatities of food if you choose self catering.

Born in Heaven

Advantages: great skiing, great ambience
Disadvantages: high season - high prices - crowds

These days the skibuffs among you will watch the annual Hahnenkamm races in Kitzbühel, Austria´s prime World Cup racing event. Yes, and it´s "Kitz" (meaning kidgoat, Bühel standing for hill) which has been Austria´s pioneer skiing resort together with the Arlberg region (St.Anton, Lech and Zürs) for decades. While I write down my memories of 38 years of skiing the world´s top slalom skiers prepare for their first run on the "Ganslern". Friday´s ...
...the "Streif" took place – both won by Stephan Eberharter, deservedly leader in the overall standings and successor of injured legend Hermann Maier. Back to my roots: in 1964 my family of five – we lived some 50 km east of Vienna - took off for Kitzbühel in the Tyrolean Alps which was a day´s trip by car back then. Nowadays modern freeways and roads take you there in less than 5 hours. Kitzbühel is accessible by train from Salzburg or Innsbruck airports ...

Mayrhofen in Summer

Advantages: Beautiful scenery, friendly locals, lots of activities
Disadvantages: None ?

...skiing or snowboarding in the tyrol region of austria, you will know what a wonderful place it is, complete with picturesque villages consisting of gruelling yet invigorating mountain walks, and delightfully quaint gift shops. when i visited mayrhofen with my boyfriend , it was the first time i had encountered such breathtaking scenery, and i was enchanted by the charming, almost magical, appeal it had. ok, so it may sound as if i'm exaggerating, ...
...7 days was most impressive! ------------------------------------------- what?s has mayrhofen got to offer? ------------------------------------------- firstly, i'll start by explaining what?s in mayrhofen. it's a fairly small town, but is extremely popular, particularly in the winter with the skiers. however, it's also immensely popular with skiers and snowboarders in the summer too, as there's a glacier nearby. the glacier is well worth a visit ...

Kitzbuhel Great place to go

Advantages: Excellent veiws and their is loads to do either in Kitzbuel and via day trips.
Disadvantages: Eating out can get expensive, I suggest going half board as this will keep the cost down.

When you think of mountains in Austria if you think of them at all, on the whole most people think of skiing and winter sports. As I found out this year there is a lot more to the mountains than just snow and ski’s. For our holiday this year we went of to Kitsbuhel which was around one hour and half away from Salzburg and situated in what is known as the Tirol. Innsbruck is the capital of the Tirolean region and can be visited either by train if ...
...You can also visit the capital city of Austria which is Vienna as well as Venice and Munich. Trips to these as well as many others are available locally. Kitsbuhel it’s self is a very pretty town but can be very expensive as it’s inhabitants tend towards the rich to very rich. In fact when you are walking down the main streets you will see famous names such as Prada displayed all over. The town hosts two churches which are well worth a visit and ...

Under A Mountain Fading Pink

Advantages: beautiful, scenic, relaxing, peaceful
Disadvantages: a bit quiet if you are young, not much nightlife

I visited the Austrian Tyrol three times, on consecutive years in the late 1980s, along with my Mother and a group from our area. It is probably the most beautiful country I have been to, although I am hugely fond of England and Wales too. Austria is such a lovely country, as it has something for everyone, from big cities to small villages. We stayed in a small place called Lermoos, which was very picturesque - a church, ice-cream parlour, few shops, ...
...Nightlife is not something the Tyrol excels in, but then again, you don't go to Austria to go clubbing ! Our hotel was opposite a hill where each morning, we would be woken up by the sound of cow bells, as the farmer led his cows to be milked. Towering above our hotel were the Zugspitze mountains and we watched them in the evening, as the sun changed position and altered the mountain's colouring through oranges, pinks and greys - a breathtakingly ...

Holidaying in the Tyrol

Advantages: Great scenery in the summer
Disadvantages: A long way by coach

I have recently been to Austria on holiday, as a regular traveller I have visited Austria on many occasions during the winter and the summer. During the winter the mountains are amazing and there is some great skiing to be done. But not many people visit Austria during the summer. If you are contemplating taken a summer break there are a number of places to visit and things you you must do while your there. First things first, Places to visit. ...
...it offers too many places of interest to mention, but one way to see all of theses is to take one of the many guided tours around the city, such as the Sound Of Music tour which visits the buildings etc used in the film. Innsbruck. Another huge city, with Horse drawn carriages being the best way to tour this city, with its huge mountains as a backdrop. There is also a train that runs up the side of these mountains and gives you a great veiw over ...

The Alps In Summer

Advantages: Magnificent scenery.
Disadvantages: Not a lot.

~ ~ Trust ‘the mad cabbie’ to visit one of Europe’s most renowned ski resorts in the height of the summer! Kitzbuhel is a small Austrian town situated high in the Austrian Alps in the famous Tyrol area of Austria, and probably best known for its famous downhill ski race which takes part here every winter season, and which attracts the cream of the world’s skiers. It’s about an hour and a quarter drive from the nearest main airport in the city of Salzburg. The drive from Salzburg itself is a memorable experience, with roads which wind their way past enormous mountain peaks, tumultuous rivers, and huge lakes, and which immediately gives you the sense of awe that never really leaves you when visiting this truly spectacular part of the world. I was struck straight away by the huge predominance of four ...
