Too Posh For My Dosh!

Advantages: A Lot of Designer Shops
Disadvantages: Too Many Designer Shops

...do and places to visit. The Galleria Mall is the official 7th largest Mall in America. Seeing this and knowing just how much myself and my fiancé like shopping, I booked our hotel just a few blocks down the road from the mall, with every intent of visiting. Located in the "up-town" part of Houston, named "The Galleria District" this mall stands proud covering nearly 3 million square feet of space (this includes the 2 tower blocks and all of the office ...
...out over 3 floors with the bottom floor having an ice rink in the centre and home to the food court. There were many places to eat here including McDonalds and various other fast food places, as well as small cafes and larger restaurants. Oh and it wouldn't be complete without a Starbucks. The remaining 2 floors were packed with shops and lead to the bigger department stores located at either end of the mall (Dillards, Macy's and Nordstrom) It's ...

Lions, Tigers and Bears...oh my!

Advantages: A Large Number of Animals in Decent Enclosures
Disadvantages: Not Enough Food Option or Toilets

The Houston Zoo is a large 55 acre zoo that is home to over 4500 exotic animals located in, yep you guessed it, Houton Texas, USA. The zoo itself can be found just behind Hermann Park and the Houston Museum of Natural Science, in the "Museum Disrtict" of the city. The zoo is open from 9am - 7pm and costs only $10 per adult (anyone over 12) or $6 for children under 12. I think this is fantastic value for a family day out as you can stay in the zoo ...
...a little Red Panda which are basically extinct in the wild. It was completely adorable! For $10 to come and go as you please I would go again if in Houston and would advise anyone planning a visit to the city to make sure you go and have a look. ...

Not To Be Missed!

Advantages: great value, free transport, so much to see
Disadvantages: shuttle bus stops at 6pm,

...exactly as it was when Elvis and the Presley family lived there. It is, to say the least, very 1970's, but the whole retro feel just adds to the vibe. The house has everything, from the impressive main foyer where guests were greeted, to the basement which I defy any male not to want in their own house (pool table, bars, leather seats, 3 TVs....). The outer buildings also house a great deal to see - his father's office, the gym/racketball court, ...
...there are special exhibits covering Elvis time in the army and his movie career. You need - and would want - a good 3 hours at least to see everything without rushing. Even the torrential October rain could not dampen our experience. The only downside was that the free shuttle bus that runs on a loop from downtown Memphis (stopping at Sun Records and the Rock & Soul Museum also) stopped at 6pm, and that the driver left by our watch a little before ...

Practically Perfect....In Every Way

Advantages: Great set changes, sterling production
Disadvantages: Don't get seats too far back in the auditorium

...we decided to check out Mary Poppins on Broadway. I don't know anyone who doesn't know the lovely story of Mary Poppins. Mary Poppins is the story of the mystical and stern English nanny, blown to Cherry Tree Lane and takes up the vacant post of Nanny at the Banks Household. Immortalised in a classic Disney movie, Mary Poppins was adapted for stage in both London's West End and New York's Broadway. ~~~ THE VENUE ~~~ Mary Poppins, the musical ...
...The lead role of Mary Poppins is, thankfully, played by a British actress and in fact, played by Scarlett Strallen. For the showbiz luvvies out there, you will notice that Scarlett shares the same name as Summer Strallen, who was chosen to play Maria in the Sound of Music and appeared in Hollyoaks over Summer 2008. The girls are in fact sisters, with Scarlett being the elder and with a massive tumble of blonde curls. Scarlett appears courtesy of ...

Educational Fun Family Day Out!

Advantages: Everything, something for everyone
Disadvantages: None really at all for me

On my recent trip to Houston Texas, my other half and I were planning what to spend one of our days doing, and decided on the Zoo. We jumped in a cab and were on our way to the zoo, or so we thought, the cabby dropped us off outside a huge building with "Museum of Natural Science" on the door. After asking, the driver assured is it was just around the back of the Museum and this was the back entrance as it's easier to park. We jumped out and figured, ...
...a quick nose round the museum too. Entrance / Location ------------------------ As I mentioned the museum is located in Houston Texas and is in the aptly named "Museum District" (Which incidentally IS where the zoo is located too, review coming soon!) The Museum is open from 9am - 5pm in general, but opens later on a Sunday morning and closes later on a Tuesday evening. First impressions of the museum were positive, it's a nice large building and ...
