I stayed in Bali last year with my husband and two kids as part of a round the world trip. Although we were staying in Sanur we decided to go on a trip to Ubud to see the legendary Legong dancing. The dancing takes place in the ruins of Ubud Palace in the dark and is extremely dramatic. The town of Ubud itself is quite scruffy but this was more than compensated for by the magic of the ruins and the dancing. It was pretty packed by the time we got there and it would be a good idea to get there early to ensure a good view. There are plenty of places in Ubud to eat before the dancing and we ate like kings for £16 for the four of us including drinks.Despite the terrible driving by the mini bus driver it made a great change from the relatively Westernised surroundings of our hotel in Sanur and gave us a good insight into Balinese culture.
