i am a student and live on one of the more rural routes. in the mornings i must get a bus into belfast. this journey can take an hour or more. the bus that operates on this route in the morning is a 66 seater with a double seat coloumn down the bus on the left hand side, and a triple column on the right hand side. this bus is fitted with seatbelts. now, simply getting on the bus is a challenge, there is barely enough space to traverse the gangway, and each seat appears to be designed for a person 3 feet tall instead of the average male of 5'9". the drivers are all and i stress all irrisponsible drivers, they regularly cut red lights and cut people up in the road, they speed on corners which should be taken at much reduced speeds and they are simply rude, always. i have been on several different bus routes, and it does appear that all these irrisponsible ones are ot be found on my route! the smart card system does not work and the central station members appear incapable of setting the card for the correct journey distance! dispite fuel price increase it is actually more economically viable to drive into belfast, or certainly far enoguh to get the metro service! ulsterbus is a shambles, irregular service, irresponsible, reckless drivers and over pricing for the quality of service all combine to make journeys hell!
Oh dear, it does sound grim and the feeling of helplessness always makes it worse. I am sorry I can not fix the bus for you (and believe me, you would not want to swap it with my local 'service' provided by First Buses) but I can at least give you a 'Very Helpful' - I will certainly avoid Ulsterbus. A bit like queues in the Post Office (if you can find one!) - the one you are in is always the slowest, and the "Position closed" sign goes up just as you get to the counter...
