Salisbury's own Fawlty Towers?

Advantages: Right in the centre of Salisbury
Disadvantages: Woefully disorganised and in need of a full refurbishment

With having a daughter living in the area we had received mixed opinions on the Mercure White Hart Hotel in Salisbury. Anyway, we decided one Sunday morning when in the area to go in and see what it was like. We had coffee and toasted teacakes in the Lounge area and we were pleased with the service we received so decided we would use this as our base for our holiday in early July. Unfortunately, our week at the Mercure White Hart did not reach ...
...I am writing on our observations of the week, 4 July to 11 July, when we stayed at the Mercure White Hart Hotel in Salisbury. Reception We arrived at the White Hart at approximately 4 pm on a Friday with our daughter. We were booked in for the whole week, while our daughter was booked in for three nights. We went to Reception to discover there was no one there. We stood chatting for some time when a member of staff arrived and called over the counter, ...

Very relaxing and fun long-weekend

Advantages: Scenery, Food, Facilities, Attractions, Clean air, too many to list!
Disadvantages: None

...hotels within the resort. The Aviemore Inn, the Academy Hotel, the McDonald Highlands Hotel and the Four Seasons (Hilton). I had heard that the McDonald Highlands Hotel was the best one, but it was fully booked when we wanted to go so we chose the Four Seasons instead. I travelled with my child, aged 6 at the time. The main reception is at the McDonald Hotel, this is where you check in and out and find the big shop and a cafe. There is also a big ...
...are the Cairngorms. Aviemore is quite small, its surprisingly not very Scottish. Most of the workers we met in the hotel, cafes and shops were from other countries and most of the tourists were from abroad as well. It had the effect of making me feel I was actually abroad and not in my own country! But everyone is very friendly. Except when we lost a scarf, we turned back hoping to see it tied to a lamppost but someone had made off with it, in Glasgow ...

Not Perfect But Not Far Off

Advantages: Convenient location, lovely rooms, modern facilities
Disadvantages: Random phone call to room due to confusion with staff

...eventually decided on the Wembley Hilton Plaza after scouring the internet for a bargain. I looked at all the hotels near to the theatre and soon realised that none of these were going to be within my price range as they were about £200 a night. I decided that looking for hotels slightly out of London would be a more affordable option. After finding the Hilton website, I then looked up all the hotels in London and found out after speaking to someone ...
...I went to the Hilton website, found the relevant hotel and booked a double room for the 16th February. Shortly afterwards I received a confirmation email from the website informing me that my booking had been made. The email also provided me with my unique booking reference number which I would need to take with me for checking in. Location The Wembley Plaza Hotel is literally right next door to the brand new Wembley Stadium. Although this isn't ...

A Champagne of Hotels

Advantages: Pure unadulterated luxury and great service
Disadvantages: erm... nope can't think of any

...out for dinner at the Hotel Du Vin in our nearby town of Tunbridge Wells, but secretly booked us into a luxury double room upstairs too. Now seeing as Tunbridge Wells is only a few miles away, it was a tiny bit of a decadent gesture but hey, let's go mad once in a while. I nearly managed to blow the whole surprise when in the bar for an aperitif I told him the glass of wine had already gone to my head! 'How are we going to drive home then?' he said ...
...Every room at all the Hotel Du Vins are named after a wine supplier and decorated in the theme of the wine. Unfortunately there isn't a bottle of the actual wine in the room itself, but hey, you can't have everything. I'd booked a large double, and our bed was so enormous you could lie across it just as easily as up and down. There was a secret little fridge hidden away - with a half pint of fresh milk in there to go with your Cafetiere of fresh ...

Christmas at Cranage

Advantages: Attractive hotel, good facilities, excellent party atmosphere
Disadvantages: Expensive bar prices, rude waiting staff

...with his work colleagues at Cranage Hall which is in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire. As this was some distance from home, we treated ourselves to a night away in the hotel without the kids, making a good night even better! Cranage Hall is part of the Principal Hayley group of conference venues and hotels but for us it was the setting of our Christmas 'do' and a well-deserved night away. Christmas Deals Our party had taken advantage of one of the ...
...when we pulled up outside Cranage Hall. The exterior is very grand and imposing and it was much bigger than I expected. Our sat nav managed to direct us to the hotel without any problems as the hotel is just a couple of miles out of Holmes Chapel, in the village of Cranage. There was more than adequate car parking available, despite the hotel being packed with other Christmas revellers, although it did mean a short walk over to the main entrance ...
