Marriott hotels - could be better! Advantages: Many hotels have lesuire facilties, food normally very good Disadvantages: can be expensiveMarriott ...had of staying in a Marriott hotel was in Los Angles and I was most impressed the food was well above average and the staff could not have been more helpful the room we had was very large with two queen sized beds and decorted to a high standard but the best bit was a gorgeous swimming pool. Agatha Christie sort of hotel Advantages: quietly luxurious but not pretentious Disadvantages: None ...a few days away near the coast in England but want to stay somewhere just that little bit more grown up and luxurious then this could be the place for you. The Grand hotel in Eastbourne is an Agatha Christie type hotel. You draw up on the drive and there is someone there offering to take your bags. When you walk in, you walk into a wonderful high ceilinged cavernous public area where the seating is arranged around fireplaces, paintings adorn walls ... ...an enjoyable stay. On the left is a morning/lounge room where you can sit and have tea and cakes, help yourself to the complimentary fruit and newspapers or just watch the world go by. On the right is a ballroom style dining room. There are lifts up to the bedrooms which are of a good standard and have good proportions. spa - without treatments? Advantages: nice hotel in lovely village with very nice food and generally friendly staff Disadvantages: lack of spa treatments available and shockingly rude Duty Manager I booked a one-nght spa break for my sister and I for her 40th birthday for £200 (it was a 2-1 from lastminute.com). When we arrived we were told that there were no treatments available, including the one we'd paid for as part of our package. That could only be provided at 10.30am the next day - with a check out time of 11am. As we'd already made plans to be somewhere at 11.30 we couldn't take that up anyway. The spa Manager was a little off when ... ...the Duty Manager who was extremely rude when my sister complained. She was shouting and very aggressive, basically saying that because we'd booked through lastminute.com we were second class guests. At one point my sister had to ask her to stop pointing at her and she also told us to 'Call the authorities, call the police if you think you've got something to complain about'. Shame! Advantages: Location Disadvantages: Read my adventure I booked and received Hilton confirmation on July 3rd for the night of August 16th. Not only they had the nerve to debit my credit card the total amount of the stay on July 4th (1 and a half month before my stay) but when we arrived the room was not available due to an overbooking from the hotel. They had all the time to inform me about this inconvenience, thus allowing us to choose another hotel. On the contrary, at our arrival, an arrogant duty ... ...for the driver from the Hilton to be taken for dinner, actually no-one had told him that he was supposed to fetch us and we had to call him. We had chosen Dunkeld Hilton for its class, peace and beautiful location and we have been obliged to sleep in a lousy village hotel. Very relaxing and fun long-weekend Advantages: Scenery, Food, Facilities, Attractions, Clean air, too many to list! Disadvantages: None ...hotels within the resort. The Aviemore Inn, the Academy Hotel, the McDonald Highlands Hotel and the Four Seasons (Hilton). I had heard that the McDonald Highlands Hotel was the best one, but it was fully booked when we wanted to go so we chose the Four Seasons instead. I travelled with my child, aged 6 at the time. The main reception is at the McDonald Hotel, this is where you check in and out and find the big shop and a cafe. There is also a big ... ...are the Cairngorms. Aviemore is quite small, its surprisingly not very Scottish. Most of the workers we met in the hotel, cafes and shops were from other countries and most of the tourists were from abroad as well. It had the effect of making me feel I was actually abroad and not in my own country! But everyone is very friendly.
