You'd be better off at a campsite! Advantages: Umm... Disadvantages: Just about everything, I think! Ah, the George. Local to me, last October I went in for Sunday lunch with a friend. I should have heard the warning bells ringing when I was served barely-cooked beef and cold cauliflower, but everyone makes mistakes - right? The waitress was not at all apologetic; she merely looked inconvenienced; however she did return with a fresh meal. Hurrah. The following evening, I was in town with my fiancé and we decided to pop in for a bite to eat anyway. ... ...serving from the lounge menu, at which point she held her hand up to us and said impatiently: 'I'll be back in a minute, yeah?!' So my fiancé stood and waited. And waited. She came back from what she was doing, walked straight past us several times, and completely ignored us for a further ten minutes as she chatted to a colleague. EXPRESS by HOLIDAY INN great for family value. Advantages: Good location but not in City centre. Disadvantages: None if booked for what it is for. We were to attend a Family Wedding, the reception to be held at the Marriott Hotel Peterborough. Needed a good value Hotel for the group and found this Hotel was just across the road from the Marriott. Booked thru BOOKING.COM and got three rooms. 1 Double, 1 Room for two adults and one child, 1 Room for two adults and two children. The Room prices were all the same £45 per night, with breakfast. Children sharing a room with two adults come free. ... ...wedding was at 12 o'clock so did not want to rush on the Sat morning. We wre due to arrive at 8 Fri Evening, I emailed this to the hotel and received a swift reply that this had been noted on our reservation. There is a link on the hotel web site for travel details, it is located just off the A1 next to the Peterborough Showground, so if struggling follow any sigh you see for the Show Ground, the Hotel is next to the entrance.. On this occasion I was left eating my words Advantages: Conveniently located, Easy to find, pets allowed Disadvantages: No on site dining facilities or room service ...wouldn't drag me into a Holiday Inn Express (aka Express by Holiday Inn), but I needed somewhere reasonably priced to stay near Staffordshire Country Show Ground that would accept dogs. My former Stafford hideaway, the Tillington Hall won't consider dogs unless they are guide dogs, and all the other 'larger chains' wouldn't either, so it was the HI Express or get up VERY early on the Thursday morning. It beats sleeping in lay-bys Advantages: Handy for the motorway without being noisy Disadvantages: OK for an overnight stop but not really where you'd want to spend TOO long on a roundabout ...the points balance on my Holiday Inn loyalty card and booked us a room at the Holiday Inn Express near Taunton. Our HIE was at Junction 25 on the M5. It was a short drive from the wedding venue and my lovely husband volunteered to stay sober and drive us back at the end of the evening which turned out to be a good deal since there was an obscene amount of champagne on offer. Like all Holiday Inn Express hotels, one of the ways they cut the costs is by not having a 'normal' breakfast service. It was a 'help yourself' affair and was a bit hit and miss in terms of the quality of some of the items though we had no complaints about the quality. Ideal hotel for families visiting Southampton Advantages: Family friendly, comfortable, good location Disadvantages: Rooms too small for long term stays This hotel is easy to find, situated off the M271. Despite its location close to the motorway, it is a quiet place to stay. From this location you are 10 minutes away from the city centre and under 5 minutes to the M27 which provides access to the New Forest to the west and the M3 and Portsmouth to the east. Parking is plentiful and well lit. Booking-in was simple which is appreciated when you have tired and impatient children to contend with! Rooms ... ...well stocked and tasty - although cooked breakfasts are not available, there is something for everyone. Reception staff were very helpful and provided good local knowledge.
