Dire Dunblane Hydro

Advantages: Nice Leisure Centre
Disadvantages: Poor Service

Dunblane Hydro Hotel is situated high up on a hill in the lovely village of Dunblane which is the home town of Andy Murray as most will know is our top UK tennis player. Dunblane Hydro is or should I say was an old majestic hotel dating back to 1878. I have stayed at this hotel on many occasions and always found my stay to be most enjoyable with nice accommodation, great food and friendly helpful staff. Although this hotel has been owned by the Hilton ...
...requested a smoking room. Yes Dunblane Hydro actually does have smoking rooms. After printing off my booking details I was looking forward to a relaxing two days. Wasn’t I in for a disappointment………………… I couldn’t believe the change in the entrance and reception area. Very American with all carpets having been replaced with laminate flooring along with a thick but loud carpet runner going the full length of the passage way to the main floors. I handed ...

A Fair Holiday In Holiday Inn Fareham

Advantages: Easily reached and really welcoming
Disadvantages: It is part of a chain - so a wee bit bland

...pleasant break. Hotels like the Holiday Inn at Fareham do not exactly fit that description. But I am not among that elitist crowd who turn up their noses at any hotel that happens to be part of a national or international chain of hotels. Our recent experience in this one, reflects all that is good about overnight stays in predictable hotel rooms - so I'll give it to you chronologically. 1 Selection We were off to the South coast to be part of ...
...highest tariffs. So Fareham's Holiday Inn turned out to be the best value in the general area of Portsmouth. 2 Cost. I paid in advance to get the cheapest rate. That worked out at £60 for a double room, bed and breakfast. Rack rate - if anyone pays it - is £155, I think, and other offers and rates seem to produce a common average of about £90 per night. 3 Booking The hotel can be booked in numerous ways. Go to the Holiday Inn site and you ...

AJewel in The Crown - The Crown Hotel, Bawtry

Advantages: Great location
Disadvantages: Car Parking

...often popped in to the Crown for an evening meal, or a drink with friends and have recently, on a visit back to my old stomping ground, stayed at the hotel. What to Expect A friendly welcome, good food, nice rooms everythig you would expect from a good quality hotel. The Crowns website nailed it on the head when they said " Step into the Crown and you will immediately discover a chic, idyllic retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life". ...
...you want to make the Crown your base.... The hotel is an ideal base from which to explore excellent shops. There are lots of lovely boutiques in Bawtry and you are always guaranteed to find something unique. A variery of restaurants Chinese 9The China Rose is a great dining experience, lovely surroundings and great food), Italian and Indian and of course good old fashioned 'pub grub, in some of the local pubs (The White Hart on Swan Street is the ...

Goodnight John Boy….

Advantages: Location, Location, Location....
Disadvantages: I'm so unfit!

It's the case that recently I have been spoilt senseless in respect of Hotel's to the point that the minimum I have come to require of any jaunt involving overnight stay guarantees a HUGE double bed, en-suite facilities of the highest standards, a swimming pool, a gym, a sauna, a Jacuzzi, cleanliness of clinical proportions, a reception of grandeur befitting the crème de la crème, service on demand and a delivery of that service being with a minimum ...
...that has brought to me the realisation that a good hotel is not defined solely by its star rating based on the services provided, but by the style with which the services that do exist are delivered to the guest. Succinctly put, the Hotel that is the subject of this review has few of the bolt on extras that until recently were required of a discerning traveller such as myself, seeking a better than home from home experience, but what it does offer ...

Christmas at Cranage

Advantages: Attractive hotel, good facilities, excellent party atmosphere
Disadvantages: Expensive bar prices, rude waiting staff

...with his work colleagues at Cranage Hall which is in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire. As this was some distance from home, we treated ourselves to a night away in the hotel without the kids, making a good night even better! Cranage Hall is part of the Principal Hayley group of conference venues and hotels but for us it was the setting of our Christmas 'do' and a well-deserved night away. Christmas Deals Our party had taken advantage of one of the ...
...when we pulled up outside Cranage Hall. The exterior is very grand and imposing and it was much bigger than I expected. Our sat nav managed to direct us to the hotel without any problems as the hotel is just a couple of miles out of Holmes Chapel, in the village of Cranage. There was more than adequate car parking available, despite the hotel being packed with other Christmas revellers, although it did mean a short walk over to the main entrance ...
