Stratford Manor A Tranquil Retreat Advantages: Clean, friendly, child friendly, pets allowed, lovely environment Disadvantages: Can get very busy with slow service and not all staff are very friendly ...it than in Shakespeare Countryside, Stratford Upon Avon? Having lived in Coventry which is in the West Midlands I am familiar with Stratford Upon Avon and how beautiful it is. The scenery there is lush and it is definitely Shakespeare Countryside. As well as being a local tourist attraction Stratford Upon Avon is also a quite part of the Country. After purchasing overnight accommodation from Lastminute.com I was set for my journey. There were many ... ...On arrival at The Stratford Manor I was amazed by the 21 acres of landscaped, tended grounds. The gardens were beautiful and so well kept. I couldn't believe that this was where we were staying for a few days rest and best of all we didn't have to worry about our daughter. As much as I love her sometimes a rest is well needed. Pretty average accommodation! Advantages: good food Disadvantages: expensive drinks We stayed at the Charlecote Pheasant for Valantines weekend. Our room was in the new part of the hotel and although large, lacked the character we were expecting from a hotel of this kind. Our package included Valantines dinner which we couldn't fault. The meal was lovely - as was breakfast. Lots of choice of cereals, fruit juices, fresh fruit and hot selection. The disappointment came when we paid the bill - unbeknown to us it was £6.25 for a glass ... ...the bar prices are so high. I don't mind paying £30 for a good bottle of wine but this was bog standard house white (and not a particually good one at that). This really tainted our weekend as I felt completely ripped off. Stratford Victoria Advantages: Good positioning, great staff, lovely place to stay. Disadvantages: No food after 10pm ...my husband took me to Stratford for the weekend to watch a play at the Courtyard Theatre, and we were lucky enough to stay at the Stratford Victoria Hotel. This is a four-star hotel with excellent facilities and very polite, friendly and efficient staff. Our double room was extremely comfortable and well stocked with hair-dryer, power points, wifi, flat-screen tv, kettle, fridge and air-conditioning (handy as we were there for the hottest weekend ... ...outside the main centre of Stratford and is easily walking distance to the theatres, shops and river. Despite it being positioned on one of the busiest roads in the area, the high-quality double-glazing kept out all the noise . Basic ok for overnight stop Advantages: Central location Disadvantages: Basic ok for overnight and short stays. Stayed at this hotel on several occassions, usually booked in the Travelodge Sale, and always been satisfied. Rooms are basic and good value when booked at discount, but we feel the Premier nearby offers better value if paying the full rate. Rooms have basic tea making facilities, bathrooms with showers over and basic tv packages. Beds have always been comfortable and extra bedding provided on request. No on site food service other than the shrink ... ...value. Hotel is next to the main shopping centre in Hemel Hempstead where there are several cafes, all a bit pricey. Several other restaurants nearby. If opens are open at night, noise can be a problems as this is on the race route around the town centre. Car park is small for the number of rooms and finding a space if arriving late at night can be a problem. Car parks are available nearby at a cost. ... Basic but a good overnight stop Advantages: Good location, basic accomodation good value at discount rate Disadvantages: Basic, only ok for short stop over or base. ...are basic as with all travelodge Hotels and have either a bath or shower room. Each room has basic TV and tea making facilities. Beds have been comfortable on each visit and each bedding/pillows provided when requested. The hotel is just off the main A303 but we have never had any issues with noise but have not opened the windows either. The hotel is in a small service area next to a Little Chef where basic meals are available. We have not used this ...
