Lovely hotel for a christmas break

Advantages: Quiet location, Beautiful rooms, friendly staff, personal service
Disadvantages: Food and Drink is expensive compared to room rates

...location is the Royal Berkshire Ramada Hotel in Ascot. We'd never really considered a hotel in this area before - had always assumed it would be too expensive but this actually worked out cheaper than the previous year on room rate with us paying £250pp for 3 nights DBB. The only extra expense being drinks which seemed quite expensive. The hotel looks like a old country mansion with quite extensive grounds which are great for a walk after too big ...
...very high standard - I made sure I had a nose around everyone's room(!). They all had plenty of space to relax in for some peace and quiet. Specifically they all had little lounge areas with sofas or big arm chairs for that after lunch snooze! Our bathroom was also fantastic - almost the same size as our main room with lots of fluffy white towels and good quality toiletries. As a large group of 12, for our meals the hotel organised for us to all ...

Woodlands Park Hotel - Excellent Value for Money

Advantages: Great ambience, fantastic service, good food.
Disadvantages: We couldn't stay longer!

INTRODUCTION My wife and I were looking to do something special for our fifth wedding anniversary and decided that we fancied a dinner and room package somewhere fairly close to home. We had never left our toddler daughter overnight before, so we needed somewhere within short driving distance from the in-laws, just in case there were any problems whilst baby-sitting. A few months before, a friend of ours had recommended the Woodland Park Hotel, ...
...the many properties in the Handpicked Hotels chain, so I looked up their web-site and signed up to their e-mail service, which sends general news and offers on all of the hotels in the chain, about two or three times a month. Fortunately, a timely offer popped into my inbox, and at £149 for two people, in a superior room, including a three course dinner in the hotel restaurant (without wine) followed by breakfast the following morning, it looked ...

A Flying Visit

Advantages: Connected to terminal, comfortable and quiet rooms, good service
Disadvantages: Expensive breakfast, long queue at check in

...main reason I chose the Sofitel was its highly convenient location, we were not planning to get to the airport until the evening, had to return our hire car and the last thing I felt I would want to do would be faff around with airport hotel buses. No need to do this with the Sofitel as it is connected to the North Terminal by a covered walkway. We arrived at Gatwick at about 8pm, dropped off the hire car and crossed the road to enter the (North) ...
...we knew to take the escalator up one floor and from here it is clearly sign posted. It is a very short walk and a few minutes later we went through the glass doors to the hotel reception. My first impression was of a very large, modern and elegant lobby area. My second feeling was dismay at the number of people waiting to be checked in ahead of us. I recalled that it was exactly the same on my last visit even though we arrived at about 11.30pm that ...

Ettington - Just That Little Bit Different....

Advantages: Straight from the pages of Agatha Christie
Disadvantages: They don't replenish your biscuits!!

We stayed in this hotel for our honeymoon a few years ago. At the time, I considered the cost to be reasonable for what would be a 'holiday' we'd never forget, and with hindsight, having stayed in many more hotels since, it was actually incredibly good value for staying in a 'classic' British hotel. I had booked a small suite, which was probably about as big as one floor of a normal house, with fantastic views over the manicured lawns and the old ...
...if you have the time). The whole room reeked of opulence and splendour - and I loved it. Breakfast was served every morning in the panelled dining room, with guests sitting in wingbacked chairs. I honestly thought I was in an Agatha Christie story, expecting Hercule Poirot, or Miss Marple to enter at any point! Lunch and dinner smelt fantastic, but I have to admit we either went out in the evenings to local hostelries, or smuggled Pot Noodles back ...
