Reviews of United Kingdom Hotels »
Not the best but well worth a mention
Advantages: lovely conservatory breakfast room Disadvantages: not the prettiest from the front
The De Vere Hotels are a rather lovely "chain" of hotels which can be found all over the UK. They are not your cheapest brand of hotel prices range from approx £110 right up to £400 or so per night. Deals can be found all over the place though, I found my deal at lastminute which was £100 for b&b. The Hotel we stayed at was The De Vere in Southampton which was okay to look at but nothing special (basically a big brick building!) It has a massive ... ...was quite impressive looking with valet parking on offer and doorman at the entrance welcoming you in. I enjoyed my stay at the Southampton De Vere and would really recommend it especially if you can get a good deal! Also on dooyoo under the same name ...

Where's The Wifi, Where's The playstation
Advantages: Reasonably priced, centrally located accommodation Disadvantages: Not everything that was offered online was available
...for, part of the prestigious De Vere group the Royal Bath is situated on Bournemouth’s sea front, just a few yards from the beach, pier, park and Oceanarium. This grand looking hotel offers a fair bit of promise externally as it dominates a large portion of the sea front. Our arrival was different to say the least, as we stepped in the door we were greeted by a selection of guests who were incredibly overdressed leading me to believe initially I ... ...the room comes from the De Vere’s website which promised both Wifi access and an in room playstation. Unable to receive Internet access via my dongle (mobile broadband) I found myself without Internet access for my stay, there was not even a wired Internet option like a lot of hotels have. I could happily live without a playstation, but if I had company that had been expecting it like one of my kids, it could undoubtedly lead to disappointment. Breakfast ...

Excellent w/e at Belton Woods, Grantham
Advantages: Location, everything all on site Disadvantages: None that we could see
Although this hotel was recommended to us by a friend, after reading the online reviews, we were somewhat apprehensive. We need not have worried, we had a surprisingly relaxing weekend with our 2 children,12 and 7 yrs old. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We ate in Stantons on the first evening and had a lovely 3 course meal, the waiters knew their menu and any changes we wanted to make were no problem at all. The family room was a reasonable ... ...would expect to find and more. We used the pool and spa facilities - at half term and on a weekend there are family splash times for an hour in the morning and afternoon, where floats and balls etc are put out for children to use, these are cleared away very quickly at the end of the hour and the pool becomes more peaceful. Although the hotel seemed very busy with outside events ( at least 2 weddings taking place) this didn't alter the level of service, ...

A Flying Visit
Advantages: Connected to terminal, comfortable and quiet rooms, good service Disadvantages: Expensive breakfast, long queue at check in
...main reason I chose the Sofitel was its highly convenient location, we were not planning to get to the airport until the evening, had to return our hire car and the last thing I felt I would want to do would be faff around with airport hotel buses. No need to do this with the Sofitel as it is connected to the North Terminal by a covered walkway.
We arrived at Gatwick at about 8pm, dropped off the hire car and crossed the road to enter the (North) ... ...we knew to take the escalator up one floor and from here it is clearly sign posted. It is a very short walk and a few minutes later we went through the glass doors to the hotel reception. My first impression was of a very large, modern and elegant lobby area. My second feeling was dismay at the number of people waiting to be checked in ahead of us. I recalled that it was exactly the same on my last visit even though we arrived at about 11.30pm that ...

Christmas at Cranage
Advantages: Attractive hotel, good facilities, excellent party atmosphere Disadvantages: Expensive bar prices, rude waiting staff
...with his work colleagues at Cranage Hall which is in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire. As this was some distance from home, we treated ourselves to a night away in the hotel without the kids, making a good night even better! Cranage Hall is part of the Principal Hayley group of conference venues and hotels but for us it was the setting of our Christmas 'do' and a well-deserved night away. Christmas Deals
Our party had taken advantage of one of the ... ...when we pulled up outside Cranage Hall. The exterior is very grand and imposing and it was much bigger than I expected. Our sat nav managed to direct us to the hotel without any problems as the hotel is just a couple of miles out of Holmes Chapel, in the village of Cranage. There was more than adequate car parking available, despite the hotel being packed with other Christmas revellers, although it did mean a short walk over to the main entrance ...
