Hercule Poirot would love the results

Advantages: : A chance to relive Art Deco life in modern surroundings
Disadvantages: Expensive

...Expensive This review is about the rise, fall and rise again of the incredible Midland Hotel in Morecambe. I do not apologise at all for the long history of this hotel because I feel it has an important part to play. The story of this hotel - which once featured in a Poirot TV programme is worthy of a programme in its own right and goes back a long way. When the present art deco style Midland Hotel opened in 1933 it took the place of an earlier ...
...contained forty bedrooms. The London, Midland and Scottish Railway Company owned the Midland Hotel and in the late 1920's they decided to replace the building with a more modern structure. In January 1932 it approved plans for a new hotel to be built on the seafront at a cost of just under £72, 000. Architect Oliver Hill was asked to provide the railway company with "a building of international quality in the modern style". Oliver Hill was trained ...

Holm House

Advantages: Outstanding luxury, outstanding food
Disadvantages: Price, no kids(but is that a disadvantage?)

...wife and I stayed at Holm house in July 2008 for our wedding anniversary. It was a fantastic, long weekend of indulgence and luxury. The emphasis is most definitely on quality. At roughly midnight on the evening before we arrived, I remembered that I hadn't ordered any flowers for my better half. An e-mail and 10 minutes later, and job done. A member of staff had returned my e-mail and informed me he would personally get some flowers when the florist ...
...Somehow, the staff at Holm house just know the "right" amount to leave everything. We had nearly finished our drinks and the canapes, which were excellent, had been devoured, when we were taken through to the dinning room. The standard of decoration in the dinning room was even higher than it had been in our room. Everything from the flock wallpaper by Osborne and Little to the pristine Wedgwood china was perfect. I was nearly speechless when I ...

Disappointing Luxury

Advantages: Really nice bedroom, with free room upgrade
Disadvantages: Horrid location and amateurish service

...other big let down with Mar Hall was the location. We had been looking forward to the idyllic setting and romantic walks trumpeted on the website, but were disappointed to find that large swathes of the estate were fenced off for development. The hotel itself seemed to be surrounded by an industrial park and a series of muddy building sites. We checked out after just one night of a two night stay... ...

Bay Tree Hotel is a beautiful hotel in Burford

Advantages: Location, log fire, comfort, great food
Disadvantages: Costly

In my view, this is a great hotel that offers a comfortable place to explore Oxford and the Cotswolds. The hotel is made up of a number of individual rooms, each with their own unique style. Molton Brown products are in the bathroom to help keep you refreshed and the bed is one of the most comfortable I have stayed in. The log fire in the bar is a real attraction on a cold winter's day, and the breakfast is great. Staff are very friendly and remembered ...

The Riverside Hotel is a lovely period building

Advantages: Great value, lovely location, very good food, lovely personal service - nothing is too much troubl
Disadvantages: Creaky floors and service fell down a little at breakfast

The Riverside Hotel is a lovely period building down a long winding drive, overlooking the River Avon. We only stayed one night and had a bargain room at £39 for Bed & Breakfast. I expected to be stuck in a broom cupboard for that price, but the room was in fact generously sized and because it was available, we were given a room with an en-suite Jacuzzi for no extra charge! All the furniture was period, lovely old wooden furniture, in keeping with ...
...was a bit uneven and slightly sloping, but this wasnt a problem at all, more quaint and endearing. We had a lovely big bay window overlooking the river, with a velvet covered seat all around, and we watched the sun come up in the morning to reveal the river, and a lovely frosted hillside as it had been a cold night. The room also had a wonderful comfortable king sized bed, well dressed with continental quilt, heavy spread in case we were cold, and ...
