Steeped in history
Advantages: Character, excellent food. Disadvantages: Character!
...imprisonment in the 1500s and old documentation pinpoints the four poster room, Mary's Bower, as where she was incarcerated. Don't expect marble bathrooms or a spa. This is an old building full of character with a choice of rooms, including four poster rooms. The DBB packages are tremendous value for money as the hotel provides excellent, locally sourced food in either the very grand dining room or bar. You get a reduction on the paid for parking ...

Goodnight John Boy….
Advantages: Location, Location, Location.... Disadvantages: I'm so unfit!
It's the case that recently I have been spoilt senseless in respect of Hotel's to the point that the minimum I have come to require of any jaunt involving overnight stay guarantees a HUGE double bed, en-suite facilities of the highest standards, a swimming pool, a gym, a sauna, a Jacuzzi, cleanliness of clinical proportions, a reception of grandeur befitting the crème de la crème, service on demand and a delivery of that service being with a minimum ... ...that has brought to me the realisation that a good hotel is not defined solely by its star rating based on the services provided, but by the style with which the services that do exist are delivered to the guest.
Succinctly put, the Hotel that is the subject of this review has few of the bolt on extras that until recently were required of a discerning traveller such as myself, seeking a better than home from home experience, but what it does offer ...

Bay Tree Hotel is a beautiful hotel in Burford
Advantages: Location, log fire, comfort, great food Disadvantages: Costly
In my view, this is a great hotel that offers a comfortable place to explore Oxford and the Cotswolds. The hotel is made up of a number of individual rooms, each with their own unique style. Molton Brown products are in the bathroom to help keep you refreshed and the bed is one of the most comfortable I have stayed in. The log fire in the bar is a real attraction on a cold winter's day, and the breakfast is great. Staff are very friendly and remembered ...

The Riverside Hotel is a lovely period building
Advantages: Great value, lovely location, very good food, lovely personal service - nothing is too much troubl Disadvantages: Creaky floors and service fell down a little at breakfast
The Riverside Hotel is a lovely period building down a long winding drive, overlooking the River Avon. We only stayed one night and had a bargain room at £39 for Bed & Breakfast. I expected to be stuck in a broom cupboard for that price, but the room was in fact generously sized and because it was available, we were given a room with an en-suite Jacuzzi for no extra charge! All the furniture was period, lovely old wooden furniture, in keeping with ... ...was a bit uneven and slightly sloping, but this wasnt a problem at all, more quaint and endearing. We had a lovely big bay window overlooking the river, with a velvet covered seat all around, and we watched the sun come up in the morning to reveal the river, and a lovely frosted hillside as it had been a cold night. The room also had a wonderful comfortable king sized bed, well dressed with continental quilt, heavy spread in case we were cold, and ...

Family Dining.
Advantages: Good basic food and family friendly. Disadvantages: Nothing major.
Moss cottage is situated on the Nottingham Road as you are entering Ripley in Derbyshire. Over a number of years we have often visited the restaurant for the Sunday carvery lunch as we have been passing through, on the whole most of our visits have been successful but there has been the odd blot on the landscape.
If you are not familiar with the area there is every chance that you would pass by without even realising that Moss Cottage existed. The ... ...meal.
Moss Cottage have an A la carte menu and some other `specials` advertised on a chalk board. On our last visit we took Mum with us who is a vegetarian and to be honest the choice for her was slightly limited but she in the end she thoroughly enjoyed a salmon dish.
We both chose the carvery meal, my husband had the large carvery and I had the smaller serving. All three of our meals were under £8 a head which if you enjoy what you eat has to ...
