Scottish New Year in an a great hotel.
Advantages: good location, lovely hotel, nice food Disadvantages: expensive but worth it
I remember staying at this hotel 15 years and thinking "this is OK but it could be amazing. Aviemore is a great town, in a lovely part of Scotland and this hotel should be a hotel of flagship standards . . " well now it is! I spent three nights here over the new year period and it has far surpassed anything it ever was. I was in a double room which was a decent size, not huge but enough room for the two of us. It was well maintained, with a nice ... ...good and there was plenty of choice for breakfast. It wasn't just fried breakfast or cereal, there was other options to keep it interesting like local kippers or porridge. I can also highly recommend the hotel bar, very good service and a lovely range of local whiskeys!! We got a deal on the price through a hotel room search website, but it would be worth paying full price for. Also the location is good right in the town centre. ...

Lovely hotel for a christmas break
Advantages: Quiet location, Beautiful rooms, friendly staff, personal service Disadvantages: Food and Drink is expensive compared to room rates
...location is the Royal Berkshire Ramada Hotel in Ascot. We'd never really considered a hotel in this area before - had always assumed it would be too expensive but this actually worked out cheaper than the previous year on room rate with us paying £250pp for 3 nights DBB. The only extra expense being drinks which seemed quite expensive.
The hotel looks like a old country mansion with quite extensive grounds which are great for a walk after too big ... ...very high standard - I made sure I had a nose around everyone's room(!). They all had plenty of space to relax in for some peace and quiet. Specifically they all had little lounge areas with sofas or big arm chairs for that after lunch snooze! Our bathroom was also fantastic - almost the same size as our main room with lots of fluffy white towels and good quality toiletries.
As a large group of 12, for our meals the hotel organised for us to all ...

Stay somewhere else if you have any sense
Advantages: There's an underground car park. Disadvantages: Stubborness and dishonesty of staff on the front desk - underwhelmed.
...booking in, we found that the bed was a standard sized double, when we had infact paid extra for a Queen size bed. And so we returned to reception. The receptionist informed us that "Queen size refers to the room, not the bed" - a first in my extensive experience with hotels. Perhaps the presidential suite contains a standard double too? I enquired. After being told that we could not be moved because the resort was "completely full", my partner refused ... ...and the car park was only half full - remember this hotel is in the middle of nowhere and needs a car to get to it easily). My partner therefore demanded to see the supervisor. Miraculously the supervisor checked the same booking computer the pompous receptionist was using and within seconds managed to conjure up not just one but a choice of three (Queen size) rooms we could stay in that did indeed also contain Queen sized beds, which we were then ...

Lovely setting shame about the service
Advantages: Heated pool, central location, evening meal was fabulous Disadvantages: Poor service, poor breakfast
...for a weekend away at Hackness grange hotel in Scarborough so we decided to give it a whirl. It is a 3 star so we didn't expect the ritz. We were upgraded to a courtyard room- it was small, dingy and smelt of damp. Also members of staff were smoking outside our room so the room smelt of cigarette fumes. But the shower was fantastic!
The pool was lovely and warm and we had it all to ourselves for a good hour. The gardens were lovely aswell.
Food- ... ...meal then this was the place (£25 for 3 courses). I would recommend this place for dinner. Breakfast on the other hand was awful- one day the food was barely cooked and the next the chef was just making up the orders as he went along or the waitresses were sending to the wrong tables. It was chaos. Fawlty towers eat your heart out!
This has the makings of an excellent hotel but they need to spend some money on the rooms and improve breakfast service ...
