Stay somewhere else if you have any sense

Advantages: There's an underground car park.
Disadvantages: Stubborness and dishonesty of staff on the front desk - underwhelmed.

...booking in, we found that the bed was a standard sized double, when we had infact paid extra for a Queen size bed. And so we returned to reception. The receptionist informed us that "Queen size refers to the room, not the bed" - a first in my extensive experience with hotels. Perhaps the presidential suite contains a standard double too? I enquired. After being told that we could not be moved because the resort was "completely full", my partner refused ...
...and the car park was only half full - remember this hotel is in the middle of nowhere and needs a car to get to it easily). My partner therefore demanded to see the supervisor. Miraculously the supervisor checked the same booking computer the pompous receptionist was using and within seconds managed to conjure up not just one but a choice of three (Queen size) rooms we could stay in that did indeed also contain Queen sized beds, which we were then ...

Scottish New Year in an a great hotel.

Advantages: good location, lovely hotel, nice food
Disadvantages: expensive but worth it

I remember staying at this hotel 15 years and thinking "this is OK but it could be amazing. Aviemore is a great town, in a lovely part of Scotland and this hotel should be a hotel of flagship standards . . " well now it is! I spent three nights here over the new year period and it has far surpassed anything it ever was. I was in a double room which was a decent size, not huge but enough room for the two of us. It was well maintained, with a nice ...
...good and there was plenty of choice for breakfast. It wasn't just fried breakfast or cereal, there was other options to keep it interesting like local kippers or porridge. I can also highly recommend the hotel bar, very good service and a lovely range of local whiskeys!! We got a deal on the price through a hotel room search website, but it would be worth paying full price for. Also the location is good right in the town centre. ...

Down but not out

Advantages: Good restaurant, pleasant staff
Disadvantages: Some uncomfortable beds, tired decor, no air conditioni

Down Hall Country House Hotel is situated in Hatfield Heath in Hertfordshire. I have stayed here on three occasions, most recently last weekend to celebrate my wedding anniversary. The time before that was three years ago when I spent my final night in the UK here before moving to Bermuda for two years. Reservation and prices I did not see any discount rates available through the intermediaries I sometimes use, like laterooms.com, so I booked ...
...quick look round, I sat down on the bed and found it to be very soft and lumpy. I am quite particular about the type of mattress I use and knew I would be in for a sleepless night on this bed, so I decided to call reception and ask to move. Within about ten minutes, the duty manager came to my room and offered to show me another a few doors away. This room was much larger than the already generous size room I had been allocated, but the bed was a ...

Lovely hotel for a christmas break

Advantages: Quiet location, Beautiful rooms, friendly staff, personal service
Disadvantages: Food and Drink is expensive compared to room rates

...location is the Royal Berkshire Ramada Hotel in Ascot. We'd never really considered a hotel in this area before - had always assumed it would be too expensive but this actually worked out cheaper than the previous year on room rate with us paying £250pp for 3 nights DBB. The only extra expense being drinks which seemed quite expensive. The hotel looks like a old country mansion with quite extensive grounds which are great for a walk after too big ...
...very high standard - I made sure I had a nose around everyone's room(!). They all had plenty of space to relax in for some peace and quiet. Specifically they all had little lounge areas with sofas or big arm chairs for that after lunch snooze! Our bathroom was also fantastic - almost the same size as our main room with lots of fluffy white towels and good quality toiletries. As a large group of 12, for our meals the hotel organised for us to all ...

I'm not in the pudding club - I just ate too much

Advantages: Perfect if you like puddings
Disadvantages: Pitiful if you need WiFi

...separate overnight stops at the Three Ways House Hotel in Mickleton - or as it's better known, The Pudding Club. In fact if you are trying to find the hotel there are no signposts for the Three Ways House but plenty for its alter ego. From about 5 miles away you'll start to see brown tourism signposts pointing the way to one of the Cotswold's most unlikely attractions - the fortnightly meetings of the Pudding Club. In 1985, the Pudding Club was ...
...pudding lovers gather at the Three Ways from all over the country and even farther afield. Their intention is to have a dinner of a 'light' main course followed by seven different puddings - an 'all you can eat' experience for the sweet toothed and all for £26 a head. Fortunately for me, neither of my visits coincided with a pudding night. I cannot abide these heavy, sticky monstrosities because they remind me far too much of school dinners. So ...
