Great pub!
Advantages: Food, Decor really everything Disadvantages: Location
Since i live in Berwickshire, i like to go local! Since my high school is only about a quater of a mile down the road its easy to get to! I\'ve been in there about four times. Each time for a meal for either a birthday or celebrating the rugby sucess with my dad!
Its a good place if you want somewhere traditional, charming and cosy to be. The food never really took that long. I\'ve only been to the bar once briefly so i can\'t really comment but ... ...alot of sophisticated food. the one that i wanted to try (but can\'t as sadly underaged!) was Vanilla and Baileys Creme Brulee! I had never heard of it but my mum had it and said it was good.
Obviously the menu may have changed!
Anyway my conclusion is it is a lovely traditional country pub with all the trimmings. The only thing that did bring it down a bit was the location and since it is right on a road it does make it a little bit more challenging ...

Kings knowes wheres to stays
Advantages: Quality, ambience Disadvantages: None
...nights in total.
The Kingsknowes is a very good family run hotel nestling in the Scottish border town of Galashiels. It is a baronial mansion dating from 1869. The building is really rather good looking in red stone and though imposing a more suitable location for a period drama than a hammer horror film. It sits in reasonably sized grounds, has ample parking and is easy to access from main roads, passing through a small residential estate. There ... ...I have always stayed in room 20 which is like a suite in that the bath/shower, toilet and bedroom are all separate. The toilet is actually in a small turret room where you can sit looking out the stained glass windows! The other rooms seem to vary in size but as the building is old they are unlikely to be small. As the hotel sits at the edge of the town there will be good views from all.
You can opt for bed and breakfast or dinner, bed and breakfast. ...

Don't judge a book by its cover.
Advantages: Good location, short bus journey to edinburgh, good views, nice downstairs Disadvantages: Uncomfortalbe room, over priced, poor portions at breakfast.
...to Bonny (wet) Scotland for the weekend. It was my friend’s idea, so he chose the hotel. We stayed in a small town called “Peebles” which is about 30mins (or an hour on the bus) from Edinburgh. A quaint Scottish town, its quite a pleasant place. Nice shops, good pubs and beautiful surrounding countryside. The hotel chosen was the Tontine. A grand house on the high street that dated back to the 1700’s. The fact that it was on the high street should ... ...were expected to park on the road. Being rather anal about my car I hate that idea anywhere, nevermind on a high street in a strange town. So I hunted around and found a small car park in the rear. Very small indeed. It had about 10 spaces. Now considering the hotel has 36 rooms, that didn’t seem like a sufficient number of spaces. First minor gripe. It didn’t help that we had been travelling for 10 hours, in the rain and heavy traffic and when I ...

Basic ok for overnight stop
Advantages: Central location Disadvantages: Basic ok for overnight and short stays.
Stayed at this hotel on several occassions, usually booked in the Travelodge Sale, and always been satisfied. Rooms are basic and good value when booked at discount, but we feel the Premier nearby offers better value if paying the full rate.
Rooms have basic tea making facilities, bathrooms with showers over and basic tv packages. Beds have always been comfortable and extra bedding provided on request. No on site food service other than the shrink ... ...value. Hotel is next to the main shopping centre in Hemel Hempstead where there are several cafes, all a bit pricey. Several other restaurants nearby.
If opens are open at night, noise can be a problems as this is on the race route around the town centre. Car park is small for the number of rooms and finding a space if arriving late at night can be a problem. Car parks are available nearby at a cost. ...

Basic but a good overnight stop
Advantages: Good location, basic accomodation good value at discount rate Disadvantages: Basic, only ok for short stop over or base.
...are basic as with all travelodge Hotels and have either a bath or shower room. Each room has basic TV and tea making facilities. Beds have been comfortable on each visit and each bedding/pillows provided when requested. The hotel is just off the main A303 but we have never had any issues with noise but have not opened the windows either. The hotel is in a small service area next to a Little Chef where basic meals are available. We have not used this ...
