Would Chaucer have stayed here & wrote his tales?

Advantages: Very close to city centre, clean and tidy
Disadvantages: Staff a little above themselves, creaky floorboards

We recently stayed at the Chaucer Hotel Canterbury, although most hotels are the same, some bare different character to others (Naturally) and the 'experience' is altogether more rewarding than staying in a multi-national hotel company. We found this at the Chaucer. Although it is owned by a group (Swallow Group Hotels), they have managed to keep its character by not standardizing the layout / decor etc and trying to make it 'stand out' from other ...
...a grumpy 20 something receptionist that seemed she didn't want to be there, we did begin to wonder why we chose the place, in fairness it was a Saturday and she properly really didn't want to be there !!, however we got our keys an continued.... the room was well decorated with a hint of antiqueness about it, the bathroom was well laid out, spacious and above all clean (apart from a little water staining around the sink, hard to notice). Basically ...

A very friendly, well run hotel

Advantages: Friendly staff, Close to the city, very clean
Disadvantages: Heating was on full blast!

We stayed Friday - Sunday. We had no children with us, so can't comment on whether it was family friendly, but there were children staying in the hotel. The hotel is very easy to find on the outskirts of the City. Plenty of parking, although I understand it can get busy when there are events on. We were sent to the wrong room to start with but the staff were extremely sorry and helpful. The lift wasn't working but again staff checked more than ...
...is plesant and spacioust and open throughout the day for food or drinks. There is a 24 hour room service aswell. We were very impressed with the Hotel restaurant. The food was lovely and came without much delay. We ate 3 course meal in the evening (about £30) and full breakfasts (£13.50) A short walk into Canterbury where the shops are great, and the bars and lots of touristy things to see. The room had all the facilities you would expect and was ...

Review of Best Western Abbots Barton Hotel, Canterbury

Brilliant, inexpensive hotel.

Advantages: Really good price, free breakfast
Disadvantages: not in Canterbury town centre.

...enjoyed my stay at the Holiday Inn express very much, its a good priced hotel and is in a convenient location (if you have a car, if you don't I wouldn't recommend this hotel as it is loacted by a petrol station, outside of Canterbury). I booked the hotel using a promotion code advertised on the Holiday Inn website (they reguarly have offers, just visit www.holidayinn.co.uk, look at the banner at the top of the page, usually it will be advertising ...
...you to a new page were you can book). This hotel cost me £32.00 per night, which was brilliant, especially since the rate included a free complimentary breakfast! So my three night stay cost £96.00 for accommadation. Check-in was simple and easy and the staff were all really friendly. The rooms were basic, this is after all a budget hotel, however, they were clean and quite sufficient with tea and coffee making facilities. The rooms were a nice size ...

Take a step back in time

Advantages: Location, facilities
Disadvantages: Checkout times, bar prices

...it for valentine’s weekend. The Hotel that they had booked for us was The Millers Arms Inn in Canterbury somewhere that neither of us had been to before. Because Valentines Day this year was on Monday the dates that we went for was from Friday 11th February to Sunday 13th February. So all we had to do know was to arrange for a baby sitter for the weekend. We had both booked the Friday off work so that we could drive down there as early as possible ...
...however, could be earlier if the rooms were ready. We gave our selves just under 2 hours to get there as after all we would have to find the place once we had got to Canterbury. This itself proved more difficult than we first thought because some of the roads lacked road signs and when you’re in a town that you don’t know these can be a big advantage. Although I am not sure if it was just the road signs that were the problem, Steph was giving me ...

Basic ok for overnight stop

Advantages: Central location
Disadvantages: Basic ok for overnight and short stays.

Stayed at this hotel on several occassions, usually booked in the Travelodge Sale, and always been satisfied. Rooms are basic and good value when booked at discount, but we feel the Premier nearby offers better value if paying the full rate. Rooms have basic tea making facilities, bathrooms with showers over and basic tv packages. Beds have always been comfortable and extra bedding provided on request. No on site food service other than the shrink ...
...value. Hotel is next to the main shopping centre in Hemel Hempstead where there are several cafes, all a bit pricey. Several other restaurants nearby. If opens are open at night, noise can be a problems as this is on the race route around the town centre. Car park is small for the number of rooms and finding a space if arriving late at night can be a problem. Car parks are available nearby at a cost. ...
