Save yourself! Advantages: Has a shuttle to airport Disadvantages: Everything apart from shuttle! Awful. Never again! Rooms: Tatty, dated, dark, dingy, stuffy. Mattresses lumpy and bedding worn and smelt damp. Furniture in the room was worn and grubby. Not as they state "They are also very comfortable and tastefully decorated". Windows filthy, mouldy and flimsy. I would not have felt safe on the ground floor. Hairdryer nailed to draw but unable to reach plug socket! Very little tea and coffee in the room and the milk was off! Noisy main road, ... ...4am for a flight. No toiletries i.e. soap. TV remote had batteries missing. Then when I took it down for some, the remote did not work the TV anyway! TV buttons were broken. Poor quality picture. Not many channel choices. Web sites say they have a trouser press in the rooms; there was not one in either of our rooms. Breakfast only served after 5am. Odd when people are checking in and out all night and the desk is 24 hours. A Flying Visit Advantages: Connected to terminal, comfortable and quiet rooms, good service Disadvantages: Expensive breakfast, long queue at check in ...main reason I chose the Sofitel was its highly convenient location, we were not planning to get to the airport until the evening, had to return our hire car and the last thing I felt I would want to do would be faff around with airport hotel buses. No need to do this with the Sofitel as it is connected to the North Terminal by a covered walkway. We arrived at Gatwick at about 8pm, dropped off the hire car and crossed the road to enter the (North) ... ...we knew to take the escalator up one floor and from here it is clearly sign posted. It is a very short walk and a few minutes later we went through the glass doors to the hotel reception. My first impression was of a very large, modern and elegant lobby area. My second feeling was dismay at the number of people waiting to be checked in ahead of us. I recalled that it was exactly the same on my last visit even though we arrived at about 11.30pm that ... Come fly away with me.... Advantages: Near Gatwick, fair price, comfortable hotel Disadvantages: Not personal service ...decided to check-in to the Arora hotel in Gatwick because we had a relatively early flight out of Gatwick for a short holiday and decided it would be a good opportuity to start the hoiday early and make use of the parking packages the hotel offfers. Following excellent reviews on Trip Advisor this seemed like the best value for a parking package and combined luxury night before our departure flight. The rooms are reliably 4 star atandard and exactly ... ...the usual 4* facilities as follows; tea/coffe making facilities iron /clothes press sewing kit TV with selected cable channels and remote control telephone 24 hour room service for breakfast menus hairdryer en suite bathroom with complimentary toiletries I was given a room which backed onto the main railway and so had trains going past (at irregular intervals) up until midnight. Copthorne Effingham Park - What's there to say? Advantages: Cheap, adequate and not badly located for Gatwick Airport. Disadvantages: Spoilt by the sports bar. All-in-all, it's just nothing special! ...that only Priceline can, the Copthorne Effingham Park for UKP 40. A great price. Further research proved that this was, in fact, officially a 4-star hotel. A result. Having actually stayed there, however, I'd have to say that Priceline were probably the more accurate in the ratings game, and I'll go along with them in that respect! Hotel guests at the Effingham Park divide, roughly, into three, rather unequal, categories. It's got a conference centre, ... ...in 40 acres of parkland, and features a 9-hole golf course (and, no - I'm not going to discuss the golf), so you'll meet golfers a-plenty. Oh - and it's also rather convenient for Gatwick Airport, so you can expect to see loads of happy families waiting to fly to Florida. Or, in our case, Prague. Falling into the latter category, this hotel was reasonably convenient. Get Your Get Up & Go At Premier Travel Inn Gatwick Advantages: Close to both terminals, clean, friendly staff, value for money Disadvantages: Food in restaurant average quality for above average price, no machines selling toiletries. ...to a night in a Premier Travel Inn. Our reason for choosing this hotel was simple, we had stayed here last year and we knew the location of the hotel and we had had a good stay in this hotel so why not come back again for a place to lay our heads? This time, however, we had more time to spend in the hotel, due to using Virgin Atlantic's twilight check in service at 3pm the day before our flight.. LOCATION: Despite it's name, it is actually closer ... ...perimeter of Gatwick but obviously Premier Travel Inn is not in the same league as Hilton but at the end of the day it does depend what you want from a hotel, we personally just wanted a comfy bed for the night, rather than paying over the odds for facilities we just would not have had the opportunity to use during our stay.
