Wonderful Hotel
Advantages: Luxury Rooms, Hugo's Restaurant Disadvantages: No Flowers in Beer Garden
This hotel is just wonderful. My husband and I stayed here for our Wedding Anniversary. I booked an executive double room but when we got there they said we were in a standard room as the executive rooms were over the function room and they had a wedding on that night so we may get upset by the noise. Oh dear I thought, having stayed in a hotel before when weddings were taking place and had a bad experience. But no, the room was fantastic; beautiful ... ...luxury toiletries. The hotel has a Pub in the grounds, so we spent the afternoon in the beer garden and the only complaint I have is that they need a gardener as they could have made a lot more of this area with flowers, shrubs etc... We'd booked for the evening meal and breakfast and the quality of food and service was second to none.
I'm planning to stay here again for a birthday treat and take the kids as I just loved it so much. Oh and by the ...

Disappointment
Advantages: Castle Disadvantages: Small roomnot representative of a Castle & bizarre bar / restaurant
We booked through Best Western & ensured that we were staying in the actual Castle part of the Hotel so were very excited about the prospect.
When we got there the initial impression was Okay then we got to our room. This was very small, no bath & nothing to indicate you were in a castle. We said we were unhappy & were offered 3 other rooms to choose from. None of them were of we would have expected as a reasonable size & all had very ordinary decor ... ...had no idea thta you were in a Castle at all so waht was the point?!?
We did smaple the food in the Foresters Bar, very bizarre & very unsatisfactory.
We had booked for 2 nights but were so disappointed that we left without staying a night. To date the owners & Best western have refused a refund despite it not meeting our expectations. ...

Value for money but you get what you pay for.
Advantages: Close to local shps and restaurants etc. Friendly staff. Disadvantages: Old, tired, bit unorganised and messy looking
Spent a weekend at the hotel, and I have to say I was not overall impressed with the standards of the place. I cannot fault the service however, the service was excellent, and the staff very friendly and pleasant. The let downs came mainly with the rooms and breakfast. The decor was old and tired, which I appreciate is purely a cosmetic issue, but it is hard not to notice badly patched-up wallpaper... The pieces used to cover up the tears were not ... ...existing pattern. It made the walls look tatty. The window in our room had a broken latch which meant it could not be locked. There also seemed to be some problem with the actual window frame, like swelling, as I couldn't physically shut the window, it just jammed at a certain point leaving about an inch gap open. Our room backed onto service entrances and fire escapes of other buildings, so it would have been easy for someone to climb up and break ...

Basic ok for overnight stop
Advantages: Central location Disadvantages: Basic ok for overnight and short stays.
Stayed at this hotel on several occassions, usually booked in the Travelodge Sale, and always been satisfied. Rooms are basic and good value when booked at discount, but we feel the Premier nearby offers better value if paying the full rate.
Rooms have basic tea making facilities, bathrooms with showers over and basic tv packages. Beds have always been comfortable and extra bedding provided on request. No on site food service other than the shrink ... ...value. Hotel is next to the main shopping centre in Hemel Hempstead where there are several cafes, all a bit pricey. Several other restaurants nearby.
If opens are open at night, noise can be a problems as this is on the race route around the town centre. Car park is small for the number of rooms and finding a space if arriving late at night can be a problem. Car parks are available nearby at a cost. ...

Basic but a good overnight stop
Advantages: Good location, basic accomodation good value at discount rate Disadvantages: Basic, only ok for short stop over or base.
...are basic as with all travelodge Hotels and have either a bath or shower room. Each room has basic TV and tea making facilities. Beds have been comfortable on each visit and each bedding/pillows provided when requested. The hotel is just off the main A303 but we have never had any issues with noise but have not opened the windows either. The hotel is in a small service area next to a Little Chef where basic meals are available. We have not used this ...
