Would Chaucer have stayed here & wrote his tales?

Advantages: Very close to city centre, clean and tidy
Disadvantages: Staff a little above themselves, creaky floorboards

We recently stayed at the Chaucer Hotel Canterbury, although most hotels are the same, some bare different character to others (Naturally) and the 'experience' is altogether more rewarding than staying in a multi-national hotel company. We found this at the Chaucer. Although it is owned by a group (Swallow Group Hotels), they have managed to keep its character by not standardizing the layout / decor etc and trying to make it 'stand out' from other ...
...a grumpy 20 something receptionist that seemed she didn't want to be there, we did begin to wonder why we chose the place, in fairness it was a Saturday and she properly really didn't want to be there !!, however we got our keys an continued.... the room was well decorated with a hint of antiqueness about it, the bathroom was well laid out, spacious and above all clean (apart from a little water staining around the sink, hard to notice). Basically ...

A Disapointing few days

Advantages: Comfy Beds
Disadvantages: Tiny rooms, laughable gym, low standards

The Ramada Hotel, Dover looks very impressive from their website but I have to say the reality falls very short of the expectations you might build up from that. Having booked a Double room we expected it to resemble the photo of a double bedded guest room.....we were very wrong! We arrived late at night and were directed to our room, it was barely big enough to fit the bed in there, to move around among the bed, small table and 2 chairs you had ...
...was the supposed interactive tv, this again was not what was expected, there were only 4 of the terrestrial channels to view (the 5th was just missing and the 2 sky channels had been turned off). The interactive part came from the limited ability to purchase items and supposedly view your bill (this too never worked while we were staying there) In the morning I needed to iron my partners WHITE shirt (we were staying at the Ramada to attend a family ...

The Bridgewood Manor Hotel

Advantages: Lovely hotel, plenty of things to do.
Disadvantages: Poor location - need a car.

This Bridgewood Manor Hotel, well I guess I should start with where it is. The address for this hotel is: Bridgewood Roundabout, Chatham, Kent. It is situated in Walderslade and is approx. 42 miles from London Gatwick Airport and 3 miles from Chatham Train Station. There are many things to do nearby - Chatham Dockyard is only 6 miles away, as is Rochester Cathedral. There's the infamous Bluewater Shopping Centre only 16 miles away and Leeds Castle ...
...what you can in the Bridgewood Manor Hotel: This hotel boasts an excellent range of amenities including a health centre. Within this there is an indoor pool, a spa bath, a steam room and a sauna. Three spa treatments rooms offer pampering massages and beauty treatments, and the attractive inner courtyard is the perfect place to unwind over a drink. There are also tennis courts and a gym for the fitness freaks out there. There is banqueting and conference ...

I'm not Burstin to return!

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Ran out of food

Never judge a book by its cover and the same could be said about a hotel, don’t go by outside appearances! For our Ruby Wedding celebrations we had decided to go on a cruise from Dover to the North Cape of Norway and as we needed to be in Dover quite early we decided to find a hotel near by and travel down on the previous day. Finding a hotel with parking seemed difficult and then suddenly we found one nearby in Folkestone, great prices offer included ...
...rooms left. Can you hear all the pitfalls? The website made the hotel sound good, and so after guidance by our faithful TomTom we arrived about 4.00pm on a beautiful sunny Saturday in May. This hotel is on the front of Folkestone and was built to resemble a ship. What could be nicer? Parking! Where can I start? We couldn’t get parked, in fact we didn’t see an entrance to the car park as it was hidden by parked cars, we drove around the one way ...

Royal Oak - After a Revolution...

Advantages: The bed was clean....
Disadvantages: Poor Decor, Poor Service, Expensive, Poor Food

...most of my life at the moment and in the quest to earn myself enough money to remove all of my debt and get on the property ladder, I have been working all hours that God sends and also travelling all over the country being a salesman, pre-sales and techie. This means that I have been staying in huge amounts of hotels. The ones that I have found on Ciao, I am setting about reviewing them. So, onto the Royal Oaks in Sevenoaks. I was in Sevenoaks ...
...to our clients. Since the course was in Brasted and all of the hotels had been taken due to the inability of my company to book anything more than 10 minutes in advance, Sevenoaks was the nearest viable place to stay. The royal oak hotel, with bed and breakfast priced at £110 was the only hotel with rooms available for the dates i required. It definitely wasn't my first choice since the website was amateurish and there was a distinct lack of information ...
