No heating and couldn't care less staff
Advantages: none - a waste of time, diesel and money Disadvantages: See above!
We booked a family room for a Saturday night in late September (26/09/09 to be exact and I'm writing this at home the same evening! read on!)
Would you believe that there is not heating? No really, none what so ever - not even a heated towel rail. It was quite a cool evening and getting colder as it does at this time of year so we asked why the heating wasn't on. Head office policy would you believe? They offered extra blankets but we would have ... ...a wedding party to deal with. What about us as paying guests? Two hours later our children wanted to go to sleep but still no blankets - we asked again and got the stock answer. It was now so cold my neck was stiff and I felt chilled right through. The children were unhappy and my wife who has cancer was feeling it more than me. We checked out amid a drunken rabble who had spilled out of one of the function rooms. One reveller nearly sent my wife ...

Grand Designs In Mind...
Advantages: Splendidly furnished, good room rates, very friendly staff. Disadvantages: Minor hiccups; batteries in remote control etc...
...impressive and commercially alluring, the Thistle Hotels sparkle, on first sight with all the Georgian style of traditional English excellence. One could almost imagine Kevin McCloud striding through the grounds decorating it's themes with sheer grandness in his usual, colourful prose.
Perhaps one could be slightly misled as to the very actual whereabouts of each magnificent structure. The hotel which I will embark on in this particular review is ... ...Shoulder…
The 137 roomed Thistle Hotel in Haydock stands proudly at Junction 23 of the North/ South corridor that we lovingly know as the M6; the very point where the A580 from Liverpool to Manchester crosses it. The picture from it's home website (featured below) gives the impression of solitude, peace and tranquillity, far away from the fast lane which carries the dense amounts of traffic from one great Northern city to another. Although boasting ...

A Room With More Than A View
Advantages: Location very good, accomadates all needs spacious rooms. Disadvantages: Dining at its own location proves expensive compared to local hospitality.
...decided to booked the Premier Travel Inn , the price was £53.00 per night and this provided you with a spacious double room, and tea and coffee facilities. The room was versatile, so that if you had children and needed to include them , the price would stay the same.
Booking the room was quite easy , I used my credit card ,and the staff on the phone ,appeared friendly and polite..
Upon, arriving, I noticed a large car park, which had various bars ... ...full english breakfast within walking distance from the Inn.
The location was superb, with amenities close by to the Inn but not too close, for comfort.
Whilst checking in, I noticed that the staff members were very efficient and curtious, our details were confirmed and we were then asked if we would like to book breakfast for the morning. They also informed us that there would be a staff member at the desk 24 hours if we needed anything.
We did ...

Hotel with ghosts?
Advantages: Beautiful historic setting Disadvantages: none.
...put off by this.
Leasowe castle dates back to around 1592 and was built by the 5th Earl of Derby who was at the time 2nd in line to the English throne. Why the Earl built the castle is not known but it is speculated that it was for sporting activities and used as a viewing area for what was way back then the Wallasey Races (horse racing that used to take place on the nearby beach). The original tower which was octagonal in shape was built with the ... ...an old submerged forest at Leasowe and Meols.
Edward also had a chair made of wood places in the garden facing the sea which he called 'Canute's Chair' and had carved on the back 'sea come not hither nor wet the sole of my foot'. There are many people that believe that King Canute himself actually visited and sat on this chair. Sadly there is no trace of this chair today. Near to where the chair was sited are the 'Mermaid Stones', these are boulders ...

To Boldly Go...
Advantages: Central location, refurbished rooms Disadvantages: Limited car parking and poor access for disabled
...and I have coincidentally had the opportunity to stay.
The Bold Hotel lies towards the northern end of Lord Street, close to the Grand Casino, for those who know the area. It is easily spotted having a prominent white façade. The hotel has an area to the front which is used in the summer months as a terrace from which one can sit with a drink and watch the world pass by. In winter months it adds a few, much needed, parking spaces.
The ground floor ... ...access to reception and the guestrooms is through the bar. The bar is busy with non-residents on Friday and Saturday evenings and it can be a bit of a struggle to fight your way through when carrying luggage. To the rear of the bar is the function suite. This was formerly Raphael’s nightclub & disco, depending on your point of view the change may be either positive or negative. It is certainly much quieter in the late hours than previously (although ...
