By George, it's good!
Advantages: Reasonably priced, good location, good range of facilities, friendly staff Disadvantages: Decor is tired and old; bathroom could have been cleaner
I have just stayed here for one night, on business.
LOCATION
The hotel is very easy to find, being on the A61 through Harrogate (the Ripon Road). It is centrally located so you can walk into the touristy bits of Harrogate from here if you want. It is right next to the International Convention Centre, which is where I imagine it gets a lot of business - that's why I went there. Its central location is a good point.
It is a beautiful Edwardian manor ... ...usual dining room, bar etc, and a leisure suite too. It has a quite a small swimming pool and a gym and weights room, plus a sauna. This is all useful stuff, if you were staying a bit longer than one night, but I didn't try and of it so sorry I can't comment. It did all look clean and there were obviously plenty of towels etc. The prices were reasonable - a one hour massage for £35, for example. One downside of the hotel's facilities is the car park ...

Does its job
Advantages: Nice location, clean, cheap Disadvantages: Creaky floors, not the best rooms ever
The hotel is in a nice location and the rooms are clean. The staff are friendly and it is a safe environment and provides a car park.
Im not sure wether the rooms have been re-vamped since I stayed, as the bathroom at the time was superb and newly installed, however the rooms themselves werent the best. They were satisfactory but not wowing - which I suppose is reflected in the relatively low price. Also, the floors were very creaky, and when I ... ...low to see from the bed.
This hotel does its job as a pleasant place to stay while visiting the picturesque town of Harrogate, if you dont a want fancy luxorious room. If you are looking for the best experience I would go for a more expensive room elsewhere, but this hotel is by no means below standards or a bad experience and I would stay there again given the same circumstances. ...

Mrs
Advantages: Good shopping close by Disadvantages: Parking charge
A friend and I went on a 2 night DBB deal which had been secretly booked a month in advance for a 'big birthday' surprise by my husband. A twin room, had been requested, on arrival we were allocated a double. They could only offer a twin room for one of the nights, so it's a good job we've been friends a long time! We were very disappointed with the standard of the room, it was 'shabby' and badly in need of refurbishment, although it was clean. It ...

French Culture In Harrogate, Who'd Have Thought It
Advantages: Great location, even greater wine cellar Disadvantages: Breakfast was not quite to the standard I was expecting.
Hotel du Vin are an exclusive brand of boutique style restaurants beginning with their first Hotel in Winchester back in 1994 this popular brand have spread across the UK at a rate of knots. With Hotels in Harrogate, Henley On Thames, Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Glasgow, and Tunbridge Wells. The next 12 months are going to be one of the most exciting in HdV’s history with Hotels opening in Cheltenham, Cambridge, York, Poole and Newcastle.
HdV ... ...any other hotel chain in the UK with the exception of course of Malmaison its sister company. Each hotel offers individual qualities or facilities but all contain certain specific requirements in order to make them part of the HdV ethos.
HdV Harrogate appears to be one of the more written about hotels in the chain, but I guess more uniquely with the exception of the Glasgow addition at present it’s the furthest north of all the hotels. A search ...

A cahnge of owners, spells disaster.
Advantages: Good Chef, mostly good food, but pretentious for Harrogate Disadvantages: Miserable decor. Uncomfortable, Unfriendly Management.
...Only three of the original Grants staff, soon to leave themselves. Food was mostly good, but our full board was interpreted by the new Manager as breakfast, and dinner, no lunch! Most guests got a tummy bug after Christmas evening buffet, which had been laid out most of the day gathering germs. Ruined out last days. This was our fith and last visit to Grants. We suspected it would not be the same, but never that it could have been so spoiled by new ... ...but never again. No Christmas spirit and a fight to get anything which we had come to expect from Grants, such as transport to the Panto. Told to walk and buy lunch on route!
Half full where it had always been a fight to get a place. Uncomfortable, seating on small plastic chairs. Very sad to see an old superbly comfortable hotel change to a brash miserable low grade place. ...
