A Flying Visit

Advantages: Connected to terminal, comfortable and quiet rooms, good service
Disadvantages: Expensive breakfast, long queue at check in

...main reason I chose the Sofitel was its highly convenient location, we were not planning to get to the airport until the evening, had to return our hire car and the last thing I felt I would want to do would be faff around with airport hotel buses. No need to do this with the Sofitel as it is connected to the North Terminal by a covered walkway. Review of Sofitel London Gatwick, Crawley

Marriott Heathrow. A pleasant place to stay

Advantages: Lovely big rooms and massive beds!!
Disadvantages: Restuarant food is good but a bit pricey

This hotel is located no more than 10mins from Heathrow airport but more like 1 hour to get into central London (depending on time of day etc) The rooms are large and of a good spec. The king sized beds are great with more pillows than i have ever seen! They are finishing of the refurb of the hotel at the moment (all floors except the 5th have now been done). There is a small but well equipped gym, a 16m pool with is nice to paddle around in but ...
...it really hot in there so found it hard to breath on occasions. There is also a steam room and sauna there. Restuarants: 2 proper ones and the bar restuarant. The american one is ribs, steaks and burgers. Food quality is good but it is typically very expensive - £17 for a rump steak is a bit steep in my opinion - coupled with a £5 glass of house wine! Never judge a book by its cover and the same could be said about a hotel, don’t go by outside appearances! Review of Grand Burstin Hotel, Folkestone

Jurys Inn, Newcastle - Very clean reception and rooms for money.

Advantages: Location to pubs bars,
Disadvantages: car parking

Jurys Inn - reasonable prices. Especially if being charged corporate rate as I was. Very clean courtyard and nice welcoming reception area. Rooms are not overly plush but are decent standard to get your head down in for one night. The only problem was the sound from the courtyard travels up to your rooms. If you are a light sleeper any noise from people returning from the pubs near by and collecting in the courtyard for a smoke before they go into ...
...only other issue is parking too. Its quite close to the hotel but because of the location of the hotel you might spend a couple of trips travelling round the ring road finding the nearest parking place. Stansted Express

Advantages: quickest way to get to Stansted; frequent
Disadvantages: expensive; not as fast as other 'express' services

I've been flying from Stansted/Gatwick where possible since I missed a flight from horribly over-crowded Heathrow because of ridiculous queues. The only drawback to this is that Stansted isn't reachable by tube. Single price on this train is £15.50 if bought from a ticket stand, but both online and return fares work out cheaper, especially if you purchase a return ticket online (£23.50). Some airlines also offer discounted tickets for the train ...
