Splendid but shabby
Advantages: Plentiful and reasonably priced food Disadvantages: In need of updating, shabby in places.
...hotel has panoramic views over the seafront and an old world charm.
I stayed here as a child on a family holiday and remember running up and down the corridors while my sister who I was sharing a room with phoned down to the dining room to complain of my behaviour!|
However, at The Grand time has in some ways stood still. Catering for week-end 'Butlin's - style' themed house parties the hotel is a little shabby and could do with a large cash injection ... ...and waiting staff are helpful and well organised. On the plus side, you can get a very reasonably priced lunch deal in the restaurant with fish and chips, peas, bread and butter and a pot of tea or coffee for about £4.00. Breakfast is also plentiful and leisurely. ...

By George, it's good!
Advantages: Reasonably priced, good location, good range of facilities, friendly staff Disadvantages: Decor is tired and old; bathroom could have been cleaner
I have just stayed here for one night, on business.
LOCATION
The hotel is very easy to find, being on the A61 through Harrogate (the Ripon Road). It is centrally located so you can walk into the touristy bits of Harrogate from here if you want. It is right next to the International Convention Centre, which is where I imagine it gets a lot of business - that's why I went there. Its central location is a good point.
It is a beautiful Edwardian manor ... ...usual dining room, bar etc, and a leisure suite too. It has a quite a small swimming pool and a gym and weights room, plus a sauna. This is all useful stuff, if you were staying a bit longer than one night, but I didn't try and of it so sorry I can't comment. It did all look clean and there were obviously plenty of towels etc. The prices were reasonable - a one hour massage for £35, for example. One downside of the hotel's facilities is the car park ...

Holiday Inn, Gatwick
Advantages: Very near the airport. Disadvantages: none
I stayed at the holiday Inn Gatwick with my family before and after flying out to the caribbean. It was clean and friendly and even the kids enjoyed it. The rooms were quite spacious with tea and coffe facilities. I even called reception as there was only one hot chocolate between the 2 children, and they were at our room within minutes with more sachets and packets of biscuits. We ate an evening meal there too and it wasn't too badly priced! We ...

To sleep... perchance to dream...
Advantages: Location, quality, food Disadvantages: Price
...that it's no longer a MacDonald - the hotel has been sold to the Mercure group, part of Accor. Although I couldn't give a toss about the brand on the letterhead, I overheard several guests commenting on the fact it was no longer a MacDonald hotel, so I guess it's important to some people. If you're one of them, be advised.
Stratford-upon-Avon. One of my favourite places in the world. I've hung out with actors, been to the theatre more times than ... ...quite a few of the many bars and restaurants.
One thing I haven't done often, though, is stay over. So when I booked tickets to both parts of Henry IV last month, I decided I'd do things properly.
The Shakespeare Hotel is exactly what you'd expect of a hotel in Stratford. It's old, Tudor in appearance from the outside and all the rooms are named (don't vomit) after Shakespeare characters. The ceilings are quite low and comfy armchairs are ranged ...

A Soviet Touch in an Old English City
Advantages: location Disadvantages: old, unwelcoming and too expensive for what it offers
I stayed in the Lincoln Hotel the other day for just one night. I have to admit that I didn't spend much time on the premises so my report will be quite brief. When you look at the building from the outside, it makes you wonder what this Soviet-style hotel is doing next to the masterpiece of architecture - Lincoln Cathedral. It looks ridiculous. My husband and I were hoping to be pleasantly surprised by the interior, but there was no surprise there, ... ...of this wonderful city. The Lincoln Hotel is not particularly cheap - a double room cost us 80 pounds (around 145 US dollars) per night with breakfast for two. The address is:
