The university cafe is located off Glasgow university. It is cheap and affordable at rates students can afford. Also, it serves a pretty nice fish and chips meal for those who love fish and chips. The staff are often nice and friendly except maybe when it gets crowded, and then service becomes a little slower. Being a budget place on Byres Road, the decor is quite old-fashioned and stark. The seats are narrow, but one can see that from the beginning. Also, the variety of food isn't great. But it's enough. Personally for myself, I haven't visited it often, just probably twice in three years. Mainly because I was hungry and I wasn't near any place else, and that my friends wanted to eat there.
Advantages: Cheap, friendly and good food Disadvantages: cramped
The University Cafe is situated on Byres Road less than five minutes walk from Glasgow Uni. For those on a tight budget it is excellent value and is always full of skint students. The clientele isn't restricted to students though as locals throng to this favourite glaswegian haunt as well as those hoping to relive old times when they were poor undergraduates. The menu is your basic cafe fayre including egg and chips, pizza, fish and chips and the ... ...anything fancy, just good, honest plain food. You won't be dissapointed.
My only complaint is that the Cafe can get very cramped and you end up having to share tables. The seats are very narrow and therefore you can get a bit closer to some folk than you would want! But if you look at it as part of th experience it is worth the discomfort.
All in all I would recommend this wee gem to any visitors to Glasgow and to those locals who haven't yet ventured ...
