The University of Birmingham

Advantages: Great teaching, facilities, opportunites and social life
Disadvantages: i am only here for 3 years, wish it could be more.

include: Mason, Elgar Court, Shakleton, Maple Bank, Tennis Courts, Pritchatts Park and Ashcroft. I was lucky enough to be in Hunter court; a private hall of residence. There are several of these located within a close proximity of the university such as Douper Hall, The Beeches, Jarrat Hall and IQFive. Although, a bit expensive and slightly farther a field. These accommodations are luxurious, mostly with en suite. The University of Birmingham comes equipped with some great facilities. Firstly the Guild of Students. There are plenty of things to do inside the guild. There is Joe?s bar, which is ideal for a few drinks with your mates or a couple of games of pool. If you are more of a nightlife person then there is ?Fab n Fresh? on a Saturday night in Joes bar for a few more drinks and music. Those of you who like your food as much as I do ...

Disastrous conference in Birmingham

Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: Overpriced and unhelpful, zero customer service.

. When I queried the size of the bill to double check, immediately there was nearly £200 worth of charges which disappeared as they could not account for them, - it certainly makes you wonder how much extra cash they make from events like these when they can just write off that money. To say I was disapppointed would be an understatement. Everything I asked for was ignored, all the promises which were made were not kept to, the whole thing was the most badly organised. I would never ever ever have another event in this hotel ever and I don't even think I would stay there either. The hotel itself is very non descript and completely overpriced. On top of all that many of the delegates had to park in neighbouring hotels as their car park was not big enough! What a mess!!!! The hotel itself is located at the NEC in Birmingham ...

Botanical Birmingham

Advantages: Plenty to see, a relaxing escape from the city.
Disadvantages: Expensive for a one-off visit. Disappointing restaurant.

Every city need its green spaces. The architecture may be spectacular and the shops fantastic, but finding a place to escape the traffic and bustle is a necessity for most city dwellers. Picture Birmingham and what do you see? The Bullring, New Street Station and Spaghetti Junction would be the first things that come to my mind. Although I've never lived in Birmingham itself, I worked there for several years. During that time I went to the Botanical Gardens regularly, but for the purposes of this review I will focus on my most recent visit which was August 2008. A Brief History Celebrity gardeners are not a new phenomenon. In the nineteenth century J.C Loudon was an influential writer on gardening and became part of London's high society. He designed the Birmingham Botanical Gardens in 1830 to provide a place where keen ...
