OK, so everyone thinks it's THE place to go to have a wild time. But not so many people know that just 45 minutes away, Utrecht has just as much to offer the traveler without being overrun by tourists and pickpockets.
With its winding streets, historical buildings and endless canals, Utrecht has a lot to offer the aesthete as well as the party animal. The Domkerk (a cathedral dating back to the 1400s that also has the tallest bell tower in the country - you can see Amsterdam from the top on a clear day), the 'Nationaal Museum van Speelklok tot Pierement' (a museum full of fairground organs and music boxes), the Catharijne Convent Museum and the Schroderhuis (a collection of some of the most bizarre modern art and furniture you'll ever see) are all worth a look.
Utrecht also has its fair share of eateries, pubs, clubs and of course, hash cafes and sex shops, so no matter what your taste you're bound to find something to keep you interested.
To be honest, the only reason I originally came to Utrecht was because I was too late in booking accommodation in Amsterdam during the Queen's Day festival. However I'm very glad I did. The Queen's Day celebrations were at least as good in Utrecht itself, without being as mobbed, and it was good to be surrounded by locals as well as tourists.
If you do go to Utrecht I definitely recommend the Hotel Strowis as a place to stay. When I originally arrived I took the only option in the guide book and stayed at the YHA - this turned out to be about half an hour by bus out of town and though the scenery was great there really wasn't much else around. The Strowis, however, is right in the middle of town, an easy walk from the train station (there is actually an interactive terminal at the station that will print you out a map too, as well as for other attractions). Around £6-£7/night for a dorm bed, there is also internet access, a good kitchen and a book exchange.
If you do decide to go to Amsterdam though, hold onto your wallet. Mine was pick-pocketed about an hour into my first visit there, and I didn't even feel it go. I suppose I shouldn't let it colour my opinion too much but as any traveller who's had such an experience will know, it can be pretty scary. I think I'll wear my money-belt next time!

On this same road (Lucasbolwerk) is a new hostel designed at all age groups where you can crash down in relative comfort from about £12 per night. Other good restaurants include Luden (on Janskerkhof), Broers (next door to Luden) and Opus (near the Dom Tower) fantastic international cuisine, great wine and beers in beautiful surroundings. Utrecht was the first city I visited as a lone traveller from England. I was worried about many things; getting the transfers from the airport, finding the hotel and above all I spoke not a scrap of Dutch.
Stepping off the plane at Schipol - the airport in Amsterdam- I was greeted by easy to follow signs pointing me where I needed to be, to collect my luggage, then booths to buy train tickets, which I'd managed in under 2 minutes, and was quickly ... ...which on arriving at the Utrecht station, was announed in English and had signs a plenty. I stayed in the NH Utrecht Hotel, which although maybe a bit pricey for a tourist (I was on buisness so didn't worry too much) would be a thoroughly recommended place (apart from the price of their internet connection!) as they have the best breakfast buffet you can immagine!
Anyway, in and around the city: It was easy to navigate quickly away from the central ...

Advantages: Big shopping centre, Great city centre Disadvantages: none
Utrecht is situated in the centre of the Netherlands. If you want to visit Utrecht, you best travel there by train. From the trein you walk directy in one of the largest shopping centres of the Netherlands : “Hoog Catharijne”.
You will find many many shops there from various genres. Ofcourse many clothing shops, but also electronics, music, food etc. If you leave the shopping centre you will enter the city centre. This is one of the most pleasant ...

De Eemhof is a Center Parcs holiday village less than 40km east of Amsterdam and 40km north of Utrecht in the centre of the Netherlands. The main concept of Center Parcs is to provide a basic level of accommodation in woodland surroundings, while having plenty of energetic activities laid on. There are 4 Center Parcs villages in the UK, but more in the Benelux countries and Germany. This was our third visit to different villages, having also been to De Heijderbos (Netherlands) and Erperheide (Belgium).

INTRODUCTION
The main square of Breda, South Netherlands has a plethora of restaurants on it. Being here for a while means that I can try pretty much all of them if I fancy, and so in the interests of consumer research I have started to go to some of the places I have not been before, mainly because I have had low expectations of them. Only one way to find out I guess!
THE RESTAURANT
Paviljoen de Colonie is a chain of restaurants in The Netherlands, other locations other than Breda being Houten, Maarssen, Utrecht, 's Graveland, Amersfoort and Waardenburg. Nope, I've not heard of most of those either. Not for the first time here, I can almost hear the distant twang of a Deliverance like banjo.
The restaurant appears to be done up in a style that is a mix of eras; the overall effect is, I think supposed to be what I ...

INTRODUCTION
Here's one for you hardcore meat eaters. In the mood for a steak, I found myself on Breda's main square and considering going to Gauchos. This is a popular steak restaurant on the main square and I thought it was about time that I treated them to a review. I am not sure if my reputation precedes me, but I note a definite improvement in service, attitude and food quality the more I review. Or perhaps I had been unlucky or unkind? Nah! I'm sure I'll experience the normal Dutch service one more time before I leave. In any case, here is my review of Gauchos.
THE RESTAURANT
Gauchos is a chain of Argentinean restaurants in the Netherlands, with branches in Amsterdam (5 branches), Breda, The Hague, Eindhoven, Maastricht, Rotterdam (3 branches) and Utrecht. Apparently they are in the UK as well.
