Most parents of young veggie children have probably lamented at times about the lack of a suitable fast food outlet where they could take their kids for the odd treat or a birthday party. In Nottingham, they need lament no more, but instead take a trip to V1, an all-vegetarian fast food restaurant on the edge of the Broad Marsh shopping centre (Hounds Gate).

All burgers cost £2 served in a bun, and vegetarian or vegan cheese is 20p extra. The hungry can order a double burger with cheese for £3 with regular (75p) or large (90p) fries. It is also possible to order a meal, consisting any burger, fries and a choice of drink (Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, 7 Up, Apple Tango or mineral water) for £3.50 large, or £3.25 regular. There is also a VKZ box, aimed at kids, which costs £2 and contains veggie sausages, veggie sausage roll or mini VLT burger with fries and and a drink plus tomato sauce, or a dip (BBQ, garlic, salsa or mango chutney dip). Parents will be especially pleased to know that V1 can accommodate children’s parties at £3 per child. If there are more than 10 children, they will throw in balloons, birthday cake and a present for the birthday child, and one adult can eat free for every 8 children. It is also possible to book entertainment, such as face painting, balloon modelling, games and prizes at prices starting from £50.
The restaurant is situated on two floors. It is clean, and service is reasonably quick. At present, there is only the one branch in Nottingham. However, the possibility of franchises is being investigated.
Advantages: Vegan, Organic, gluten free - something for all needs here. Good quality too! Disadvantages: Only one is in Nottingham. More expensive than Mcdonalds
From the window of V1 you can look across at McDonalds and think, while you are eating your organic ‘happier’ meal that you might be eating something that actually hasn’t trampled the environment. In fact there’s a chance that you’re actually eating something healthy and having fast food!. Additionally your meal tastes great and was made by individually to order and doesn’t contain lots of gruesomely farmed titbits. V1 is a fast food outlet in Hounds ... ...ripples through their offerings. V1 isn’t just for Veggies and vegans. The great thing about V1 is that you can also go there if you have to be careful what you eat. They have a handy folder available if you ask that gives you the low-down on their ingredients and suppliers. Their gorgeous soup is ‘always gluten free’. I love the carrot soup at lunchtime with a packet sandwich made fresh at V1 that day – this costs £3.20. Warning, the lentil soup ...
