Advantages Nice beach and bars.

Disadvantages Expensive and stuck up!

I visited Vale do Lobo over summer 2003 and stayed with my second cousin and his wife in their house on the resort. I stayed for 3 days. The resort itself was quite nice and quiet and the beach was lovely, although some of the walks down to the beach are severely hazardous. The resort boasts the two fantastic golf courses however you need a good few hundred euros to play them. It also has a leisure club and a tennis academy.

During the day, I spent time paddling in the sea having found out that it would cost me roughly £6 to use the pool for a day. Quite a lot if you consider that the pool is very rapidly slipping into the sea, just like some of the properties.

During the evening, we spent time in Monty's which in my opinion was the nicest bar on the resort. The food served is nice and the staff were friendly and helpful. Kareoke seems to be the flavour of the evening in there and the mood is great.

I didn't get such a high opinion of the Parrot bar. Considering this is a 5 star resort, I would at least expect some courtesy from the staff. However, the waiter who served me and my mother was most rude. He virtually threw the drinks at us, and didn't even stop when he left the bill. (We'd had enough of him after one drink.) The staff in some of the bars are stuck up just because they work there and that is disgusting.

Vale do Lobo shopping was a good one for me. I thought that the products on sale were of reasonable quality if a little overpriced.

In order to get anywhere, we had to drive. We even drove to some of the places on the resort. However most of the facilities are within walking distance. It's only 20 minutes from Faroairport, and car rental companies.

The properties themselves are for rent between 100-900 euros per night depending on the season. To stay in the level of accomodation I was in it would cost you roughly 500 euros a night staying in early september as I did.

Overall, I thought that the resort itself was nice, but most of the services were well over priced and not worth the money. I don't think i'd choose to holiday there. It was just too stuck up.

Wow for so much money per night and you still have to pay to use the pool! That's ridiculous!
