Today I'm going to write about the city where i have lived all my live: Valladolid.
Valladolid has more or less 320.000 inhabitants and is the capital of the Spanish state of "Castilla-León" It's in the north part of the country, less than 200 km from Madrid.
It's both an industrial and cultural capital and presents a very well preserved historical center with very significant buildings and churches from the Golden Spanish Age, many of them from the Renaissance. Actually Valladolid was the capital of the Old Spanish Empire during the XVIth century (until 1559 and again from 1601 to 1606, precisely). It was as well one of the cities where the Castilian writer Cervantes (the writer of "Don Quijote de La Mancha") lived.
The city is crossed by several rivers, the most important is the river Pisuerga, which flows into the river Duero few kilometers far from the city (which flows into the Atlantic Ocean in the Portuguese city of Porto), and the surrounding fields of the city are well known due to the quality of their wines ("Ribera del Duero" & "Rueda").
It a city with a lot of art: you can find here a lot of beautiful churches and museums, and marvellous buildings as you can see in my photographs.
But it's also a city of studends. Its university is one of the most important in the country and has lots of students. Because of this there are many young people living in the city so you can also find a lot of pub and parties at night.
It's not a very big city so you can walk from one to another place but if you prefer not to walk you can use its buses (which works correctly and in time) or by taxi.
We celebrate our feasts in september, when the parties go out to the street. And it's is also very important our Holy Week when the art go through the streets.
We have meditrerranean weather: it's very hot in summer and very cold in winter and it doesn't rain very much.
If you are planing to travel to Spain don't forget my city. I'm sure you'll like it.
Ask me whatever you want about it.
Greeting from Pucela (another name for Valladolid) (Spain)
I still can't put the photographs. I'll put them when i have more points. Sorry
