Recently, me and my girlfriend visited Rome. As we were only in Rome for 4 nights we wanted somewhere central so we could see all the sights and do all the touristy bits. We eventually decided on Valle hotel and we are glad we did.
::: Why the Valle Hotel? :::
There are a number of reasons why we chose Valle. The first was that it was central, about 5minutes walk from the main train station (Stazione Termini) from there you can catch a bus to anywhere in the city, or get the metro or a train to other local towns or further afield if you wish.
::: The Hotel:::
It is a relatively small hotel with only 40 rooms. There is a welcoming foyer, with a reception desk manned 24/7. There is also a little bar. The rooms are fairly modern, comfortable and very pleasant. All rooms are en-suite. The rooms were clean and inviting. All rooms also come with satellite/ cable TV (a couple of English channels), a phone, a safe, a mini-bar and air conditioning - useful for those hot months Im sure. The only meal that the hotel serve is breakfast. This consisted of rolls with cheese and ham if you wished, crossiants with jam, orange juice, coffee, tea. We found this very pleasant and a nice way to start the morning. My only criticism would be that the cheese and ham were always the same and only one type of each, it would have been nice to have a slight change each day. Other than that the breakfast was excellent. All of the reception staff speak good English. Our stay was relatively cheap, we paid about £200 for a four night stay.
::: Transport in Rome :::
The Hotel Valle is well connected with the rest of the city with the main train and bus station being 5minutes away, there are two metro stations nearby too, only 5mins in either direction from the hotel. Unfortunately the metro in Rome is limited, there are currently only two lines although they are in the process of building a third. Therefore we tended to use buses, an extremely cheap and easy way to get around the city, once you realise you can't buy tickets onboard the bus but you have to get them from a newspaper stand or snack bar. Once on board the bus you have to stamp it in the machines provided.
:::The Main Sights:::
From the hotel it is only a 5-10 minute walk to the colosseo (colosseum) and the Roman Forum, the social, economic and political central of ancient Rome.
The Vatican is of course a must on any visit to Rome. We found this fasinating. Although be aware that the Sistine Chapel and Vatican Museums tend to only be open in the morning, especially during the winter.
There are several other sites such as the Pantheon and Spanish Steps which also have to be visited on any sightseeing trip to Rome.
:::Conclusion:::
The Hotel Valle is an excellent little hotel and was superb for what we wanted. It was central and near to good transport links for anything slightly further afield. The room was clean and the breakfast kept us goin to lunch. I would highly recomend it.
